Memory Card not being recognized after a while

I'm currently using a Sandisk 1gb MiniSD card in my MDA Vario however after a while it doesn't show up on my Vario and I have to remove it and place it back in. Sometimes even that doesn't work and I have to soft reset.

The only thing on it at the moment is the GB map for TomTom.

Any ideas what is causing this?

Apologies if this has problem been covered before however I did a search and found nothing.

my 1gb sandisk has been doing this too, i have to push it in and out about ten times for it to work, my 512 works fine.

thought maybe it was just dust etc in the phone, gave it a blast with an airline the other day and its been fine since, but doesnt expain why the 512 works ok???

My Sandisk 512mb did the same.  After that died I got a Sandisk 1gb which has been fine for the few days I have had it though.

My scandisk 512 is doing exactly the same thing and quite frankly its pi*sing me off. Would you be happy with a laptop that only accessed the hard disk when it wanted to? Rebooting the laptop if it didnt, stabbing pens in the side of it in a lame DIY attempt at hoping you can access your data again?!!

I was chuffed when I got my Vario a month ago, but little bugs like this are really making me wish i stayed with a smartphone, not a pocket PC smartphone.

Anyone else got the bug when with when your on a wifi network (in your own home for example) and your device is password protected?!?! Try it for a couple of days and count how many times your device locks up when you unwake it.. even worse when a text or voicemail comes through and you cant read it! even worse still when the only way out is a soft reset that causes you to loose the text!

AAAAHHHGGGGGG!

This is a widespread problem with this particular device. Mine does it also and it's driving me nuts. You'll find the device works better without the card but hang on a minute I want it to work with a card in. I think it's a WM5 issue as my old Jam was fine- no problems at all. In fact thinking of ditching the Vario and returning to it.

its not an OS issue - the OS has nothing to do with it. it is a hardware level issue, not software.

How do you know that? Do you have a Wizard? Have you looked into the issue in depth? Or are you just stating what you believe to be the case as fact?

If it was a 'hardware level issue' it would require physical intervention to fix ( i.e a repair ) rather than re-insertions / soft reset before it worked. The issue is the controller 'forgetting' there is an SD card inserted and needing a removal / reinsertion to 'wake up', and has been common on several HTC devices (including smartphones) as a battery saving feature that has not been implemented very well.

There are known issues with certain operators roms causing mini SD card issues with the re-insertion problem being the most common. I have found the Qtek test rom to be the most stable with my 1gb mini SD on my 9100. More info on this issue can be found using google or going to xda-developers.

There is nothing physically wrong with my 9100 mini SD slot - I have checked the contacts for continuity and the switch for miniSD card insertion detection, no dry joints, no failures, so it has to be software!

(Interestingly the HTC Prodigy / Wizard service manual states the resolution of a physical SD slot fault as 'replace mainboard' - can I have the faulty ones please HTCEurope? ;) )

Since upgrading my Vario with the latest tmobile update I do not have this problem anymore. So I would say it's a software isue.

To be honest, using the i-mate ROM, I've never ever had an issue with my sandisk 1GB that i purchased from ebay... However, a fellow employee of mine with an i-mate JAMin has had a few issues with his SD Card playing up ;)

I've got a c600 and bought a 1GB SD from FujiFilm that does not seem to be recognised by the phone. Is there anything that I need to do to it such as formatting. I can't find the memory card in activesync at all! Cheers

I have a 2Gb card from Moby memory and only had this problem before the last T-mobile update.

Everything is ok now.

It was a software problem with the original WM5 roms. The new roms fix the problem - that I think was caused by some over zealous attempts by MS to save battery and processor usage (by putting the sd card access to sleep when not in use).

It affected all WM5 pocket pc devices but the AKU2 roms have sorted it.

I have recently started having the problem again with the latest Tmobile ROM but it took some time for the problem to start happening again.
