Hi. Thinking of upgrading from spv M500 to M600. Just wondering if its ok to back-up data with activsync from M500 then restore that to M600 even though it has different software (wm5)? Also can I carry on using activsync 3.8 with wm5? Thanks for any help.

Hi,

Firstly, you need to upgrade to at least ActiveSync 4.0, because the JAMin is a WM5 based device. I believe that 4.1 is most current. There are some problems people are having (myself included) in getting up and running with AS 4.0 and later, as it works differently under the hood (makes use of a virtual network adaptor) and can cause problems with some firewall apps. Read other threads in these forums about this.

Transferring data across, I'm probably not the best person to advise, but if you are syncing to outlook, then resyncing with the new device when you get it should be OK. I have never done this myself, as I hate the idea of installing Outlook.

Other than that, just copy your other files (pictures music etc) over via your PC. Oh, and definately recommend an SD card (2GB ones are now cheap), to hold music photos and to install apps onto.

Regards,

Toonie.

You can't backup across OS's. As the previous guy said you just sync all your mail contacts etc with your outlook with old device and then sync it back with your new device.

DO NOT USE AS 4.0!!!! Make sure you go straight to 4.1

If you have any apps you've purchased, you should be able to get replacement WM5 ones for free.

If you have an exchange server account, you are going to love an M600 with directpush etc!
