so how come, there is so little discussion and resources about and for it on the web

there is this forum but its not exactly busy compared to the other PPC specific boards on modaco and xdadev dont even have a section for it.

it must be a popular device as tmob dont have any left in stock (they sent me a pink one to replace my dodgy graphite one!!!)

mucho confusedo

I can't understand this either. The size of the phone makes it very portable and the size of the screen makes it extremely useful. I know people rave about the vario but I think the extra 5mm thickness would have made it too chunky in the pocket for me.

I'm chuffed with my graphite mda c II as I could never have justified paying out for a ppc but with t-mobile got one for free.

I have to agree with you guys. I think the reason xda developers haven't got a section is due to the fact afaik T-Mobile are the only carrier to have launched the Charmer.

I am hoping as T-Mobile have some great deals on now and the unlimited GPRS more people will get the MDA C II and find this board!

I really love mine, I've had it a week and a half and its really good, only slight problem is I keep losing reception and the phone doesn't bother to search a network so I think I will take it back and get it swapped over.

You should all know by now that I'm very pleased with my Compact II.

As mentioned, T-Mobile being the only provider to offer the device has held back it's spread, as has the release of newer slightly better featured devices (the HTC Prophet upgrades the camera to 2megapixel and adds wifi).

One thing that bothers me is the lack of support in the form of updates since the release of the Compact II. The T-Mobile Download Manager (the website where roms are downloadable here) has long promised a rom update but the quoted release date of March has since passed... ;)

Pondrew, I know this may sound strangs, but have you actually downloaded the ROM from T's site?

Someone found that for the MDA Pro, although the site was showing no new ROM update, the actuall link on the site downloaded a newer ROM!

Strange but, apparently, true.

Conficius, can you confirm that Rom Patch on TMobile Website is actually new Rom (AKU2) patch for "Compact II" ?

Also I looked at ROM Patch, actually they mention that it is;

RUU_Charmer_1120223_11202110_11220_T-MobileUK_Ship.exe

File Size: 26MB

Apperantly it is 47.1 MB!

When I run installation it says; "PDA Phone ROM Update Utility 2.00.4"

I'm still not sure if it's new rom patch or not, but I think I'm going to try :/

Well, I run installation wizard and it seems that image version 1.12.2.23 which is the same with my one.

So I cancelled it.

No I can't confirm - all I know is that for the Pro, although the site says it is the original ship ROM it is in fact a later one but I don't believe it is the MSFP one. I have no idea when it comes to the charmerbut it looks like you have answered the question - sorry for making you download a large file but at least you now know.

Maybe I should shut up and crawl back under my stone....

Valid point Confuscious and yep the T-Mobile download site doesn't seem to be maintained very well. Not only was a new MDA Pro rom linked to without updating the rom info on the page but the SDA II page STILL links to the MDA III rom...

Anyway, end result is the same, there's still no new rom available on the Download site.
