Finally we all know when we can get hold of the first HTC clamshell phone

Europe UK : HTC launched its greatly anticipated STRTrk handset. Available in black or pink; it is the first music-focused clamshell smart phone to pack great entertainment features into an ultra slim, design-led shell as well as offering the option of syncing into the office to update emails and documents.

Weighing 99 grams and just 16mm thin, the STRTrk (Qtek 8500) combines model looks with a business brain. The main body of the handset is matte black whilst the coloured metal outer shell has dedicated play, fast forward and rewind buttons as well as a backlit 1.2” TFT LCD for viewing and controlling music play-lists. A MicroSD memory slot offers the choice of storing additional tracks in ACC, WAV, WMA and MP3 codec formats using Windows Media Player or direct over air downloads.

Once opened, the STRTrk sports a larger backlit 2.2” QVGA screen for viewing familiar Microsoft

Except the dates keep shifting - some of the articles say June for everywhere, some June for UK, Expansys are still swearing blind that my order with them will arrive 19th May.... Even though their own website says past 22nd May...

SO VERY ANNOYING. Want this phone or the Nokia 6131 - whichever comes first, I am getting but the Nokia release date is proving equally unreliable...

1.3megapixcel camera is not good enough. It should be at least 2 and take a good picture. It should also have flash.

If it had those features that phone would be a certain purchase for me.

Microsoft seems keen in including extra gaming options into its windows based mobile phones as announnced at e3:

The games will be accessible via the Xbox Live online network. This is now being extended to PCs running Windows Vista and mobile phones using Windows.

I will be looking for a powerhouse wm5 phone next which is still small and sleek and has a hell of a camera. TBH I would rather get a phone with a 3MP camera at christmas which will be possible and I doubt there will be a smartphone for some time that has that.

Are there any WM phones coming that match my power house but small and sleek criteria yet?

Can't see what all the fuss is about.

Average looks, no wifi, no 3g, a camera resolution that is 3 years out of date and everything else that's on every other WM5 phone.

Anyone know if this or some other non-motorola clamshell smartphone is coming to a US Carrier?

I'm kind of tired of scratching and breaking the dust coated glass on my smt5600's (thank god for the insurance). I always hated clamshells, but they are looking more and more inviting with these screen issues.

ok.... I agree that the functions aren't state of the art!

I kinda like the looks... but it's thin as hell!!!!! so first of all, this was made for people who like clamshell phones and second for the people who don't buy smartphones because of the chunkyness.... (which is understandable).

for us long term smartphone/pocket pc users the size is not that big of a deal anymore.

I was thinking of sweettalking my girl in to getting one of these startreks!!! but she doesn't like it <_<

average people like the smartphone software, just not the phones. so they rather have a good looking phone (to them) then a well usable phone.

THIS COMBINES IT ALL!!!!!! so in short: this phone makes windows mobile accesable for all.

I have been using the Star Trek for about three weeks and love it. My first clamshell. So small and light compared to the Tornado. I don't really miss Wi-Fi most of the time.

The Star Trek is meant to be the same as the Tornado to my understanding, just in a clamshell format, but there's a couple of noticeable differences. The camera quality and software is much better than my Tornado. Surfing is much faster too (in terms of scrolling down pages). Also, there's a second MP3 player built in, which combined with the much. much better earphones (than the crappy Tornado bundle), the sound quality is awesome. By the way, it looks and feels better than it looks on the web....carbon fiber shell, grippy rubber base

Gripes? Lack of adequate internal memory. Screen gets grubby really fast. Keyboard is surprisingly good to use, although a little more relief on some of the buttons, esp the enter button in the 4-way. would make it faster to use. Keyboard backlight also a little random.

Does anyone know if any carriers are going to sell it? So far, it only looks like the distributors Qtek, imate and dopod are going to sell it.

Cheers
