Be nice if they could but in my case when I added WnW Pro bundle to SIM only they added WnW Pro immediately and cancelled WnW consumer on the next billing date. So the two ran concurrently for a week or so.

Haven't read this thread for a while, thought it had been done to death!

Flext+ W'nW (£35 + £7.50) less 25% = £31.88 which is the tarriff I am on.

It does not allow HSDPA. To use HSDPA we would have to remove the W'n'W add on and add the Pro add on - that is changng the contract and will lose the 25% discount on everything New cost = £35+£10= £45
Or you could add the W'n'W Pro for £10 resulting in a cost of £41.88 but ywe'd be paying twice for data.

The discounts for life only apply if you do not change the contract, I thought that had been made abundantly clear when this was orriginally discussed. I knew exactly what I was signing up for and am happy with it.

If I get a Hermes I will consider my options but by Aug I will have had 4 months of increadibly cheap voice/data and texts.
The option at the time was to take FlexT35 with 25% discount and pay full price for the W'n'W add on which could then be changed - I optedt not to go down that route.

I *could* be wrong, but that's my understanding of the situation.

Just saw this over at PPCW.net... Arne spoke with Ron Langton, data marketing manager for T, who informed him of the following:

"As for HSDPA handsets, Langton said they will be available in "late Q3 or early Q4," and while he declined to go into details as to the handsets, he did mention that an HSDPA version of HTC's Windows Mobile 5.0-based PDA phones, which T-Mobile calls the MDA range, is planned by the Taiwanese ODM."

I think you are right...I wonder if T will allow any flexibility though?

More to the point, I think i could live with a 3G service on the Hermes. All I do is a little light browsing and email. Its not like I am downloading large files or anything that often if EVER. So the question for me is: Do I really need the extra speed that HSDPA provides on my phone? I dont download music/videos on it. I dont access large files etc. Would the speed boost in going from 3G->HSDPA really be of any benefit to me? Is the difference in a webpage taking 2 seconds to load and 1 second to load that much of a bonus?

What do you think?

I love browsing on 3G but you can never have enough speed! How ever fast it is you always want it to be faster, not having tried HSDPA I don't know how it will perform in real life.

Only way to find out if T is flexible is to ask, but I would have thought that if they can get out of giving you the 25% off they would!

The way i see it is that if they are flexible they will get more money from me than less.

I wont change my contract if i lose the 25% on everything. But if they let me keep the 25% on the Flext AND also allow me to change to HSDPA (with or without 25%) they will get more money from me.

You could always go SIM only for a few months until the right handset comes along. That's what I'm doing and quite a few others too. Yep and it looks like the Hermes is the "right handset" for me too if the deal is right...

I tried calling, but they know nothing as yet. CS are totally not in the loop and i couldnt be bothered with going through the hassle of getting through to someone that would know.

What's so great about HSDPA?  Okay, so the data rate will be 2-3 times that of release 99 and the latency will come down from ~250ms to ~100ms... but is that really important?  TBH 300kbps and 250ms is already fantastic and doesn't need improvement.

HSDPA also isn't as mobile as release 99 due to not being able to support soft hand over.

Well, most of that went over my head so I'm definately not qualified to answer that!  

EDIT: on second thoughts, you've already said yourself that the data rate will be 2-3 times. Remember that faster transfer rates will always be considered better when it comes to data...

For mobile workers the increase in data speed would be well worth it.

All we know is data transfer rates will be faster on HSDPA - isn't that a good thing?

Sorry, release 99 is the 384kbps dedicated channels we're using today.  HSDPA is release 5, which instead of allocating dedicated channels to each user just uses one shared channel, with users allocated time on this channel based on their instantaneous radio conditions.  Users are only sent data when they are best able to receive it increasing average throughput..

Anyway... sure the data rate will be increased but so what?  By the time we're at a couple of hundred kbps extra data rate really isn't very useful.  Did my 512kbps -> 2mbps ADSL upgrade make much difference?  Nope, not unless I'm download hundreds of mb files which isn't something anyone is going to be doing on mobile tariffs.  Of course HSDPA doesn’t improve the UL at all which for mobile workers is also important.

Totally agree...but for certain people/users HSDPA is definitely a step in the right direction.

Also, in my opinion, ANY advancement in technology is a good thing. And it's the early adopters that help provide the revenue for things to continue to progress at a decent rate. Thats my take on it.

My 2mbps -> 10mbps cable upgrade made a hell of a lot of difference, as will my GPRS -> HSDPA migration

Roll on the Hermes
