Broken Calendar icon on Start Menu shortcut - Battery Pack Pro *CONFIRMED*

The icon on my Calendar Start Menu shortcut is broken, it just shows the default blank folder style icon. However when you select it the correct icon is displayed until you deselect it. The shortcut itself works fine though and does launch the Pocket Outlook Calendar.

I am not sure but this may have only started after I installed Battery Pack Pro. Any ideas?

Well I guess I am not the first to experience this as I found the following thread on the HowardForums:

http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1018940

It suggest; "Setting the shortcut to :MSCALENDAR?outres.dll,-10002". I am not sure how to do this though as I do not seem to be able to edit the properties of the existing shortcut and I can only create a new shortcut that points to an actual file.

Hi there

Have you tried doing a soft reset?

My Qtek 8310 has a tendancay to do this with my folder icons, but a soft reset seems to be the only fix <_<

Well I just pulled the battery for a few seconds - does that count as a soft reset?

Calendar icon is still borked.

Yep, that'd count for soft reset.

By the way folks, why the heck can't we just call it a reboot? Sorry, that's another topic...

Connect via ActiveSync and copy that shortcut (\windows\Start Menu\Calnedar.lnk) to your desktop. Right click it and choose properties, and uncheck the read-only box.

Now open it with notepad (you'll have to make notepad show "All files" to see it), and edit the string in there to look like the suggestion above.

Then just copy it back over to the same folder on the phone, allow overwrite, reboot, and see if that worked...

Let us know,

Thanks for the notepad tip, I didn't realise you could text edit the shortcut.

Well I have had some limited success, changing the shortcut to the above suggestion does rid me of the blank folder icon. Now I get an empty window icon which upon selection changes to include a pen and appointment note. I get the same icon if I create a shortcut to calendar.exe or poutlook.exe calendar

This is better, but still not right. The icon should be of a month-type calendar view which lifts when selected.

try this...

21#:MSCALENDAR?:calendarapp

Thanks for the suggestion but that is what it was originally set to. This gives me the empty folder icon when unselected but the correct 'lifted' calendar icon when selected.

Hmmm.

Not sure what else to try then. I assume you've tried pointing it to the calendar link in the windows folder, like this:

21#\windows\calendar.lnk

or

21#\windows\calendar.exe

Or, if nothing helps, just set your menu to list view rather than grid view, and you won'nt notice anything wrong because the icon doesn't switch when highlighted in list mode...

Sorry I don't have better suggestions, good luck,

OK, the problem is definitely with Battery Pack Pro. [thread subject updated to reflect this]

Whichever program I configure as being the first on the Battery Pack Pro Program Bar is the one that gets the broken icon. I just swapped the first and second programs around on the Program Bar so that Calendar is now in the second position and SmartphoneNotes is in the first.

Initially all works OK, but after powering off and back on my SmartphoneNotes icon is now broken in exactly the same way. When unselected it shows the blank empty folder icon, but when selected it shows the correct secondary icon. The icon is broken both in the Battey Pack Pro Program Bar on the Home Screen and on the shortcut in the Start Menu. The Calendar icon appears correctly now it is no longer the first on the bar.

I was running BatteryPackPro v1.5.1 but have just updated to v1.5.3 (the latest available) however the problem remains.

oops, XDA IQ is smartphone. Sorry. You're right, current version for you is 1.5.3

Hmmm, I dont' know what to tell ya. See if they have a support forum, or look in the FAQ for a possible solution...

Good luck!

Nothing in the FAQ (already checked) and no support forum. However as I am now certain the problem is with Battery Pack Pro I have emailed OmegaOne. If I get a fix I'll post again. If not I guess I am looking for a suitable alternative.

There's always Facade and SmartMonitor...

Thanks for that, Facade does look interesting. If I don't get any joy out of OmegaOne I'll give it a go. What I like about Battery Pack Pro is that it does just exactly the functions I require; program launching, system monitoring and task management.

No reply yet from OmegaOne so I have been trying out Facade and SmartMonitor. They are a great alternative and most importantly don't break my icons. Thanks again for the tip notaliberal.

Reply from OmegaOne:

Thank you for your email. We are aware of this issue and are working on resolving it for the next version of Battery Pack Pro. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience in the meantime.
