Guest nickcornaglia
It's no secret that even though the Blackjack is an unbelievable Smartphone, battery life is a bit less than desirable with HSDPA use. (less than a full 24hr day for me....your mileage may vary). But HowardForums member, pbogle, offers us a solution to turn off/on HSDPA data, based on his Samsung ZX20 experience. This leaves us Blackjack users with UNBELIEVABLY GREAT battery life under EDGE or GPRS data. (2 or more bars left by the end of the day for me with a decent amount of use). The solution is an phone code to open a secret Admin Settings screen that will allow you to switch between GSM Data (Edge/GPRS) and WCDMA(HSDPA). 1. Enter *#1546792*# 2. Select Option 3 Netowrk & Call Settings 3. Select option 5 Network Mode 4. Select GSM (Choose WCDMA to change it back when you need it.)Now if someone could make a cool little app to quickly toggle these settings...we'd be all set! :)EDIT: Read this thread for directions on how to make a shortcut to do this!!! HURRAY!
Guest iJITSU
There is a quicker way. You can find the bandselect file in Windows and create a shortcut in Start Menu. You can then just select it from your Start Menu and select GSM 850, 1900 or WCDMA. Somone at HOFO figured this out (sorry I would give credit but can't remember who). If you want to use the same menu as the code entry method brings up, you can do the same process with adminsettings.
Guest nickcornaglia
Indeed you are correct. A post in this thread by BEAUPS revealed the answer: 1) Connect your phone to your PC. 2) Click on Explore in ActiveSync 3) Navigate to the Windows Directory 4) Find and right-click on the bandsel.exe program 5) Choose 'Create Shortcut' 6) Rename the shortcut created (at the end of the directory) to Band Select 7) Cut the shortcut 8) Navigate to the StartMenu folder 9) Paste the shortcut there 10) If you wish you could create a Speed Dial by navigating to the shortcut in the start munu from the phone, clicking Menu, then 'Add Speed Dial' Hurray! Guest moxie
Bandselect.exe only give you the abillity to select 850 or 1900 but not both. It's adminsettings.exe that will give you the abillity to exclude out 3G which acctually consumes all the battery and have both 850 and 1900 for better coverage. http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/forums/v...p?p=81131#81131

Guest thefamousgrouse
This code brings me to a menu with two options: 1. PDA Version 2. S/W Version None of the items you mentioned - any advice?
Guest K J White
So, I read the instruction, but exactlly, how do you enter this admin area to change the phone setting. I know it doesn't work for the phone dial page. I'm missing something. can you help.
Guest nickcornaglia
You enter the admin area by tping the code in step #1 from the home screen...just like you are dialing a number. Starting with *# lets the phone know you are entering in a code. The second set of instructions in my second post is an alternate to get t0 the same end. So far the bandsel.exe works for me. I am not sure if bandsel.exe or adminsettings.exe is better yet unless someone could say differently.

I have the application unlock installed, but the phone (BJII) still won't accept the changes. I don't get an error, but going back in, the radio button has reset to AUTO. Is there something I'm missing? Edited February 7, 2008 by tyborg
