Orange 3G in Glasgow - stuffed?

Hey all,

My device is M5000, but It won't connect at 3G speeds although I got full signal strength in a 3G area. (Error msg:Cannot connect for an unknown reason. Check your settings blah blah....) If I change the BAND of the M5000 to GSM only, then it will connect no problem at the lower speed using the same settings.

Can someone in Glasgow check to see if they can get a 3G connection?

Is there any reason this could be happening? I can't figure it out (yes I've called 156 and they say all is well in G1 postcode...althought the guy said to me 'is that Birmingham?!!')

Thanks for any help!

LOL @ the birmingham postcode reference..

back on topic, what APN is the M5000 trying to connect to, 'orangeinternet' or 'orangewap'?

AFAIK it shouldnt make all that much difference, but when I had a 6630 it sometimes refused to connect to 'orangewap' when I was in UMTS mode, yet would work perfectly in GSM.

'orangeinternet' however (with the username Orange, and blank password) would work perfectly in either mode.

It's set to connect to orangeinternet. I ended up deleting all the 'Orange World' settings - but now can't see how to add all the settings back in! When I deleted the Orange World settings, it left me with a group called 'My ISP' under which you can add various connections. I did speak to someone else at 156 - who says there is a problem with the masts in Glasgow! So who knows what the problem is :)

I've hard reset - still can't connect to the 3G network!

I went into the local Orange shop to ask them about the problem, where I overheard a guy in the queue saying he was having problems with the network also. I spoke to him and yep, it was a 3G phone he has. Same as me, no connection for the last few days! (annoying, as I've paid for the 'World cup data bundle!) So looks like it could be a local issue... fingers crossed.

i think you need the orange world settings.

do you not know how to use the support pages on orange's website where you can download settings!

....and incorrect :)

Settings for M5000 are not on the Orange site.

It's a location issue. I was away from Glasgow this weekend and 3G was working fine.
