Opera for Windows Mobile Pocket PC, the browser of choice for lots of Pocket PC users (including MoDaCo Plus members who get it for FREE! :)), appears to have been stealthily updated on the Opera site.

Running at version 8.60u1 yesterday, the download page now details 8.60u2... although the changelog page hasn't yet been updated.

Additional info to follow as it becomes available... the 'u2' tag indicates this will be a very minor update, and in fact the only change I can see so far is that the 'About' box no longer displays BETA tag! Still no option to choose where cache is stored... URL entry still does odd things with 'PhonePad' (inserting spaces!) :D

I saw this on another site and wondered why I hadn't had an email or anything from Opera :)

It seems to render pages a little faster, but that might be because I have also upgraded to an AKU3.5 ROM on my Universal.

Either way, have installed it today, and seems fine.

It does complain about the security certificate on Google's customised homepage though :/

I've just installed Opera on my Vario II and it seems to have buggered about with the CAPS LOCK.

All was well pre-Opera. Now, in all apps wanting text input, I get CAPS with no caps on and lower case with 'shift' or 'caps' button.

What gives? Is this a known bug? Or is it me being a numpty?

It's very annoying to say the least.

I don't have that issue. Tried a soft reset to reset the caps lock state?

P

Not yet. Does a softie leave it all as is, like a re-start? I'll give it a go. I've done a search and no-one has identified this issue at all it seems.

It must be me, I'm special :)

Yup - that's got it.

All sorted. All I need now is for Opera to launch when I hit the W&W button on the device and/or Today screen.... (and, yes, it is set as default browser).

Start -> Settings -> Buttons to set the hardware button... don't think you can change the launcher on the today screen per se, but you should be able to rename the WnW link in the Windows Dir and replace it with a shortcut pointing to Opera.

Just one more thing...

Is there an easy way to import Favourites from PIE? I've got loads in there imported from IE7 on the PC which will take ages to input manually.

Thanks, I'll shut up now :)

No... I keep meaning to write a utility tho :)

P

There's Opera for desktop isn't there? Anyone know if that will import from IE7 (like Firefox can), and then from there to Opera Mobile? Like IE7 and Mobile Favourites?

For the main sites I visit, I have the links in my customised Google page, with the tabs to other things limke RSS news feeds, weather, and things like that.

Means I can access the same pages, on the same layout from any browser, and as a homepage, it makes life easier from Opera on my PPC.

But then on a VGA display it's easier to see it all :)

Well I've uninstalled it! Trying to open links in emails (any emails) threw up a dialogue box shouting about the file not having a certificate or being broken or something.

Sorry if this doesn't read too well but I've just woken up & now I'm damned cross cus my gadget won't work!

The real trouble is this is now happening in PIE too! What else could be causing this problem? All was well yesterday :)

Seems to be able to browse ebay and my online banking sites now without complaining about the security certificates being out of date which is nice.
Is it related to this issue?

If it is, why has it permeated into PIE too? I've done a reboot since uninstalling Opera and the problem remains. Have I been a numpty and broken something :) ? I can't remember changing anything else...

Any advice gratefully received :D

You should just be able to go to the official Opera site to download it:

http://www.opera.com/products/mobile/products/winmobileppc/

http://www.opera.com/products/mobile/products/winmobile/

You should just be able to type your serial code in that.

I've got it now, Thanks.

My point was that I could not get it from those links you posted above, I was getting page not found errors or timeouts - only on those pages and nowhere else....obviously I knew where to get it, just couldnt...

Problem sorted now - thanks guys....except now that a Universal WM6 Crossbow ROM has leaked, I might have to put it all on again :)
