hi! i have a orange spv m5000. i have recently purchased it off ebay £200. I'm thinking the rom versions i have are rather dated...

Operator version: 7.113.1.130

ROM version: 1.13.49 WWE

ROM date: 09/20/05

Radio version 0.00.00

Protocol version: 42.37.p8

ExtROM version: 1.13.130 WWE

I have noticed there is a update version on the orange website ... dated 6th November i think....but i have read various posts that people have had problems with this version...if updating will i lose my Pocket MSN and things ?? As i have read that orange pda's dont come with this as standard. if anybody thinks they could guide me in the right direction... could you please reply. Cheers

Hi,

Funnily enough I upgraded my year old Universal (M5000) last weekend. If youre radio ROM is 0.00.00 then I think i have read somewhere that this is like a test ROM perhaps check over at the Universal forum here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=280

After D/L the ROM from Orange - can honestly say the device is nippier, calls seem a lot clearer, repeat reminder alarms actually work now too - which is a bonus.

It did take me about 8 hours to get all my software reloaded - am sure you are aware that by installing a new ROM is completely wipes the device.

Re MSN its still there - I only think its been removed from later ROMS which Orange are not offering. However once again take a look at the site above and you'll see there is a separate forum for universal upgrades where there are loads of unofficial ROM's you can try

My phone has frozen 1 or 2 times this week - but then I have been constantly tweaking and tinkering with it, to get it back to be 100% the same as prior the upgrade.

Hope this helps.

ROMS are in three parts (That site again explains this)

Essentially the main o/s ROM is the o/s system part (Like Windows), The extended ROM - this is where all of the installation files come from and customisations from Orange etc. Finally the Radio ROM controls the phone part of the o/s and also bluetooth, WIFI etc.

The imate ROM is, I believe, the only AKU3 ROM for the Universal. If you don't mind losing the Orange customisation it's the one to go for.

Any chance you can send the link to where this ROM can be downloaded, also like you say we would loose the Orange customisation...............THANK GOD, but is there a simple way, ie cab install, to load the GPRS, MMS and SMS data back on.
