Hi All,

I don't claim to know much about this, so does anyone know if there will be anyway to upgrade an Orange M3100 to windows mobile 6.0 at any point in the future?

Either by official or unofficial mechanisms?

Thanks..

not sure, theres gonna be a update that allows the PPT feature, maybe that will have WM6 on it. does the M3100 have PPT or just the 8525?

PPT feature? You mean Powerpoint? The 3100 has this already.

Mobile 6 updates will be released for some devices. Whether the Hermes is one we will have to wait and so. Although no doubt the ROMs available for updating other devices will be hacked around with and made to work on the Hermes and other devices ... I am hoping so anyways! :-)

im gonna pay a whole 600 dollars for the 8525, and hopefully microsoft will realize that we payed a lot for this phone, and will consider the upgrade. also its one of the best pocket pcs, im sure it will have the upgrade.

the latest AKU for the Hermes is AKU3.3 which adds push e-mail and fixes a number of issues.

Orange have not released a single update other than a sole 2.3 AKU update which is now well out of date.

if you want PTT functions on your phone then the only way you're going to be able to do it is by SuperCID'ing your phone and then flashing an alien OS to it like the Cingular one, although I've tried that one myself and I can't say it's terribly impressive, you're best off with the HTC Qtek test ROM.

also, in an unrelated note: there's GPS on the M3100 - a number of us have flashed the Trinity radio to it and proven it... sadly there's no antenna hooked up from the looks of it, so the next stage is to get that wired up

Although the orange rom does have push email... as AKU2.3 had the MSFP update.

Might add that the Vario 2 has push email via exchange server out the box, I've been using it for months now.

Built-in GPS, eh? I enabled the hidden GPS settings page with the fit4cat Hermes tweaker, but I've only used my bluetooth QStarz receiver with the phone so far (and it works very nicely for things like Windows Live Search and suchlike, and WM5's ability to share GPS resources between multiple running apps is very cool indeed!)

Not to mention the XDA-Live Crossbow ROM for the Hermes being cooked over at XDA-Developers by Kyphur :D

I'm not going to link to it, so find it yourself ;)

Has anyone contacted Orange or any other provider to find out what they have to say about possible updates? I've emailed Orange, but not heard back yet. As much as I'd like an update - of any sort but particularly to WM6 - I'm not going to hold my breath. Orange have something of a history of not delivering in this department

Interesting little item on SmartphoneThroughts - free updates to WM6. Haven't been able to find any more info about this as yet but the story says that Microsoft are giving free licenses to vendor to upgrade devices. Fingers crossed, eh?
