... you know it..

So I just called Orange to discuss an upgrade from my (out of contract) C550 to the E650.

I get told that I cannot upgrade to this phone. I was told that I would have to get a new contract on the phone, which I was fine with. Then I get told that I cannot keep my number if I do this! Shocking.

I can't believe how flawed their processes are. The dumb bint on the phone also argued with me that you can only get the phone on Orange and nowhere else. I had to politely educate her.

So right now I fully intend to boycott Orange (after many many years custom), buy a generic HTC Vox and move my Orange number to another telco like Vodafone. However, I will wait until the E650 is officially available and call Orange back, just incase the argumentative sales chick just didn't have it up on her screen at all.

Snarl.

Sounds like she was giving you misinformation, it can happen ;) Try calling back once the pricing is up and see what they say then!

Yeah I will do that before I make any decisions. It's quite possible the E650 just wasn't showing up at all on her screen as it's maybe not available yet. It still says 'coming soon' on their website.

That was my thinking. She possibly just didnt put two and two together when she tried to apply the handset to your account!

This is normal. New popular handsets are available to new customers first. Upgrade customers have always had to wait. Its worth ringing O every couple of days to check though. I rang the freefone number and get a hermes on upgrade a couple of weeks before anyone could get one on 150.

I had to lose my number and start a new contract. I put in a disconnection request for my old phone and have still been getting billed. Phoned them up to complain and was told they'd deal with it and get back to me, still not heard anything and that was a week ago.

I'm severely p***** off with them!

i'm considering just buying out of the 14 months i have left with them and biting the bullet. My rationalisation would be the punishment for having been so stupid as to think they would have changed their greedy little snotbag ways since the last time i mistakenly thought they looked like a class act. It would end up costing me less in the long run anyhow, i should think. I can't really find any plus in going to t-mobile in terms of call charges as i have to use a lot of 0870 and 0845 numbers which neither network offers any kind of cheap rate on, but at least i could get the web-n-walk and maybe an n95 on a 12 month contract with them. When i tried to get an upgrade on my phone to a C550 yonks ago i ended up being billed for the handset AND almost paid an upgrade fee, grand total £100 til i whinged and they quickly 'credited' my account (three months later).

Anyone got any other pros for heading over to T-mobile? i need some justification for retail therapy here ;)

Excellent customer service, to which anyone moving from O will surely appreciate!

Also release ROM updates unlike Orange, Also their phone software isn't locked down so much either

The Futures Pink :D

I've had very little problems wth Orange CS, i've also had 3 ROM updates for my C600 so i'm not sure why you say they don't release ROM updates.

To me the only thing T-mobile have over Orange at the moment is their Web n Walk data plan.

She said it wasn't available to me as an upgrade.. She didn't say why.. Computer says no..

The CS I spoke to today said the E650 wasn't on their system yet so i'm not sure why she would say it's not available as an upgrade. I'd think any handset would be available as an upgrade?

What I meant by ROM upgrades is T-Mo have their ROMs available for you to Download, and provide AKU updates in the same way. I didn't think Orange did this but maybe I'm mistaken

If you say you have had no problems with Orange CS then you are in an minority ;) In six years with Orange I never got the level of service I now enjoy with T-Mobile. they were on Watchdog only this week for keeping their customers on hold for too long (again)

Strange, Went into my Orange shop (Southend on Sea) yesterday to change from a more expensive talk plan to Raccoon 25 (or whatever its called) Came out with a lovely new SPV E650 (upgraded from my C600) and its still on the same number that I have always had.

Suggest you visit the shop again and get them to confirm this.

Orange are very annoying, we had to call up quite a few times and then finally, about the 8th time we called up, we managed to get a free M700 and N95 on upgrade, with a free K800i added on a new sharer! They were asking £150 for the M700 before, absolutely stupid.

They still couldn't get me a black M700 either!

Yes but if you visit the shop in the high st you may get a different result. They had no problem with upgrading my C600 to the E650 and me keeping my number. It was the first question I asked them and I actually quoted this very thread as my reason for asking.

If you ring up Orange to do an upgrade they usually have alot more power of what they can give the customer where as retail we have to obey the rules ;)

The advantage of going retail when doing upgrade is we can offer buybacks and give u so many months for free where as doing it on the phone they can usually offer u a better phone, especially if u threaten to leave them !

We were in two Orange shops today (Metro Centre) and they had no E650's, in fact knew nothing about it or when they'd get it.

Orange direct say it's available from them for new customers, but upgrades may be about a week or so.

That's the problem with Orange, You could call up 5 different times and be told 5 different things. Its most definitely "the left hand doesn't know what the right is doing"!

My search for a SPV E650 was hell today.

First of all I went to the Arndale store in Manchester which is HUGE. They did not have any until Tuesday which is when most stores will recieve it apparantly. The top 100 stores got them last Tuesday. They told me to go into the Market Street store which I went into today.

I spoke to a sales assistant who was totally oblivious to what the E650 was and said Orange don't do it, try T-Mobile!!!!! Thankfully the manager overheard and said they may have it in stock, so he sends the sales assistant into the stock room to check. I was left waiting 20 minutes for him to get back, of which he said they had it in stock on PAYG!!! I asked how much and if they do it on contract. I was told strictly PAYG only. I asked for the price and thought I would get a cheaper line rental instead. He had to go into the stock room again to check as he didn't bother to bring it out. Another 10 minutes, he said that he got the wrong phone and they do not stock it.

I went to Piccadilly train station and they were much more helpful there, they didn't have it in stock, but reserved one in the trafford center for me.

I went to the trafford centre and was asked if I wanted a LG Prada instead. I told them it had to be the E650 and the smarmy git said "So you are a geek then". They took quite a while in signing me up and they didnt offer me the £100 free credit as "It wasn't applicable to that phone" I think it was just an excuse to get out of form filling. Regardless, I went ahead and bought it. I thought I would be cheeky in asking for a free 1 GB Micro SD, and I was given a dirty look. I explained that many dealers are happy to give away a free xbox, psp or nano. He said that dealers wont get this phone for at least 3 months. Which IMO is pretty shocking.

I can't make any calls as the phone needs 24 hrs to register. I have Skype successfully running and also the WLM beta. Has anyone managed to get the S710 ROM sucessfully running?

I showed it off to my friends today who are really impressed with the form factor and the ease of use. Some of which have said it is going to be there next phone.
