Hi

I have exactly the same problem. Not only that, but I have had the problem TWICE ... arg! Despite my phone being under insurance I need to pay a £15 fee to get a new phone, or face the hassle of sneding the phone to HTC to fix (postage and tracking at my own expense).

This is the last time I go with a HTC. The phone is underpowered from a processor point of view and has proven to be unreliable two out of two times. Shame on HTC!

I would like to know if anyone else has this problem with their phone....

O.

It isn't uncommon in the devices that use a 2.5mm headphone socket.

When you put the headphone plug in the socket, it pushes a microswitch at the tip to disconnect the internal speaker. On removing the plug sometimes the microswitch doesn't release.

The answer can be just to push the plug in & out quickly a few times- that can get the switch to reset.

This happened to me too. It seems to be a common issue with HTC Prophets. I had to send mine back to HTC after a long set of phone calls back and forth with different companies arguing who had to repair it. the phone was only 2 months old.

Yes I have also had this problem on two seperate phones. If it is within 6 months of Purchase Orange should take it back. 6-12 months old and HTC repair it. I am very disappointed with Both HTC, but especially Orange - they have made me jump through hoops again and again resetting etc when it is clearly a hardware issue.

The odd thing is, the speaker does occasionally seem to randomly start working again, and will then be ok for a good while. Very annoying.

And yes, the processor is crap too.

My phone recently screwed up and I could not hear anything, and no one could hear me unless I put the hands free in. Anyway, reading this forum about putting the headphone jack in and out because the phone was still switched to hands free, i tried messing around with an electrical screwdriver which clicked something - and the phone now works fine again.

So no orange insurance, and no HTC. So if you have the same problem of no speaker etc, try poking the headphone jack with a screwdriver until it works. I played loads of MP3s in media player so I could tell if i had fixed the problem or not.

Nice on.

Had the same problem today, never noticed it before.

Kept poking a solid tip of plastic in there and it released and works again.

I wonder if a bit of fluff has gotten in causing the switch to stick
