Guest Jamesx10 Posted May 25, 2007 Report Share Posted May 25, 2007 Hi all. Could anyone help me? I've recently bought an Orange SPV M3100 from ebay. I've unlocked it as I want to use it on O2 (I have an Xda orbit also). Its just a little annoying that its still got all the orange loading screen etc. I don't really want to flash a new ROM to it as knowing me I'll turn it into a doorstop. But I've been told that there is a way of debranding without flashing a new ROM (via reg settings). I was also told that this site would be the bast place to start looking. You have come to the right place :rolleyes: The Orange logo's on the casing can, apparently, be removed easily with (of all things) a sugar cube. It takes a little patience and care, but gentle rubbing of the cube over the decals will have them off in no time. If you are interested, there is a 'new' Windows Mobile 6' ROM available, although I'm not permitted on this forum to link to where it is. But if you use a well known search engine and search for 'Black 3.0', I'm certain you will find what you need right at the top of the list :P Apparently, there is little to worry about when installing this ROM as all goes according to plan. The only reason my Hermes isn't running it at the moment is due to my remaining warranty with T-Mobile, which you won't have with Orange due to it being "ebay'd". Be brave - give it a whirl. I have no warrenty to invalidate so nowt to lose (apart from the £160 I paid for the device). I've downloaded the required files and will have a look another night and let you know how I get on. Are you aware of the site mentioned (MrVanx)? I assume that its known and well tested. Thanks again for the rapid responses to my questions. There are so many forums that shout you down for asking a question that is deemed beneath the knowledge base that use them on a regular basis. This one however is the opposite with the knowledge being shared. Good work. I'll take a look for info on version 5 v 6. Device runs faster on WM6 and as long as you follow the guide you referred to, you shouldn't have any problems. The only thing you will need to do afterwards is to set up your devices connection settings to your networks data access point, mms, voicemail and message centre numbers. I think I'll give it a go. If there are any issues can it render your device dead or in most cases can you just flash another rom? I've found that myself :D Some seem to take great delight in making you feel a right numpty and it can seem that they spend more time answering posts in that vain than providing any help at all :rolleyes: That rarely happens on Modaco. The basic guidance remains "do a Search of the forum before asking your question" but I think the worst you'll find is an answer containing a link to the previously covered information. Key point is to ensure you have HardSPL on your phone - its in the guides. Modaco is a very nice and friendly forum, with a number of people who will bring tips and info back from other less friendly forums (which may however be more cutting edge). I've installed HardSPL 2.10.oplipro and checked using the ok, power and reset button and it is showing that version. My problem is that when I try to install the Radio and Black Rom I get a couple of errors, the last error is the following Error, unknown version! you should pick sspl I have done some google searches and found some info but not much. Once the screen on the phone changed to show the % meter after about 2 Secs the installation was complete!! It seemed a little rapid but the phone is reporting that the latest version is installed!!!!! Anyway, if I do dare to update the Rom I'll post my reults........as I said it will be a week or so. Apart from one problem, syncing music with Windows Media Player 11 is painfully slow now. Anyone else get this? Know of a way to sort it? Yep, much slower sadly. Then again might be something to do with the card thats in there and whats on it. I'll do a format of the card and then try it from scratch.
