Looks good - myabe also worth noting that faria has released a test rom for the hermes (note the word test) - feedback suggests this is also very good. Faria has a very good reputation from the Wizard forums and so this is expected to be an excellent rom.

Currently trying Dymond, but will check out faria's next one if not this one.

both ROMS are extremely fast. =) But I still prefer the ROM I'm currently using for stability.

Silly question time: sorry but here goes...

...if I went ahead and flashed my phone with any 'unofficial' rom but wanted to go back to WM5, could I just reflash the rom with the AKU update from Orange released in April? Or would this not work?

Cheers for your reading this!

I don't know much about downgrading but Mr Vanx has apparently done a tutorial on how to downgrade to WM5.

http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/index.php?option...1&Itemid=26

I've now upgraded to Black 3.5, very nice ROM, espically the File Explorer. It looks great to, well except for the COMM Mannager, which the icons are skewed on.

How often are updates released to Black? Now I know the offical site I'll allways be able to download them

They basically as and when the developer -JJ can get a chance to do them. They tend to happen around releases of RC's candidates of the Hermes WM6 Rom - which is why there's been some good updates and some not so good ones. Some of the candidates to come out of MS or HTC.

It's worth looking at one and looking at the Faria ROM - that also looks good

I think that you're choice of ROM comes down to what "extras" you want on it -but whatever you do, remember two things:

1) These people are doing these as hobbies - so their support won't be 24x7

2) Flashing your phone ROM can invalidate the warranty on your phone! :P

Still it can be worth doing - especially with all the bloatware some carriers put on their phones!!

Hmm ... this seems interesting. I read about someinternet connection problems, anyone using this on a UK M3100 could comment on internet or phone use problems?

Thanks.

I'm not sure what your refering to but I know for a fact my T-Mobile MDA Vario II bought 2 weeks ago has a Radio that was years old. Version 1.0.4! I've now upgraded it to 1.42 and get much better signal, I've actually got HSDPA working now

Thats makes me wonder weither its a deliberate thing T-Mobile are doing, putting an old radio version on there to screw up 3G signal?

You can find most (if not all) of the Radio ROM's over at the XDA-Developers wiki (I will be updating our own with available radio versions), however I'd advise you read through some of mrvanx's guides before upgrading your radio, and also flashing Hard-SPL beforehand to prevent your phone from being turning into a £450 paperweight

Hard-SPL guide: http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/index.php?option...0&Itemid=27

Thanks for all that. Think I will take a look and read through all that before I give it a go...Like you say... a £450 paperweight is not much good to me

I have Black Dymond on my M3100 (having previously flashed some 15 or so WM6 roms) and it seems pretty fast and stable. Data connections no problem.

Only issue is it runs fairly hot...

Radio 1.41.00.10 upgrade guide:

One note of caution - it's worth reading up on the radio details - because certain versions of the radio suit certain carriers!

If you're on Orange, it appears to be that 1.38.01 is the best version with it being most stable, best battery life etc.

True, I've found 1.41.00.10 works best on T-Mobile UK (battery life and signal wise). 1.40.30.10 was ok signal wise but the battery life was terrible. 1.38.01.10 is ok, but i seem to get better performance out of 1.41.00.10.

TBH i think its just a case of trying each one over the course of a week or two and then deciding which works best for you

I am still waiting for later WM6 builds and will no doubt take the plunge soon (if T-Mob do not supply it!). I have the original WM5 and radio and have never had any problems getting HSDPA to work (at least not after T-mobile eventually enabled it for me!).

Well it's been a week now since I installed Black Dymond 3.5 on my Orange SPV M3100, and so far all is well.

It's very stable, even with lots of apps running simultaneously, and definitely much faster than WM5.

My overall impression of WM6 is that it makes WM5 look like a beta test platform.

The Orange radio was version 1.38 so I left that alone and just upgraded the OS.

UMTS, wifi & bluetooth all work just fine, with bluetooth definitely behaving better than under WM5.

I think JasJammin has done an awesome job creating this version, and hats off to Mr Vanx for his brilliantly written installation instructions.

One final salute: well done HTC for creating X-Button 1.5 and finally plugging a BIG hole in the Windows Mobile experience, and doubly well done for making it freeware!

Sure, I'll take some in a little while (I'll have to dig out my SE W800i)

I'll edit this with links to them once I have. Anything in perticulare you wish a photo to be taken of? Device Information, Today Screen, Phone Dialer?

A couple of questions:

What handset are you upgrading (M3100, VarioII, TyTn, 8525, Trion, etc.)?

What ROM version are you starting with?

If your SPL is version 2.10 then you already have Hard-SPL.

If you do need to install Hard-SPL, make sure the checkbox that says "Is it Hard-SPL?" is NOT checked, as your phone isn't Hard-SPL yet.

I followed these instructions myself with my M3100 and had to flash it twice, but had no other problems.

Since all the Hermes variants have different ROMs, someone here may be able to tell you of workarounds for problems on your particular model.

most of these rom updates are OS only, so they do not change your radio version.
