Using the SPV3100 as a modem

Hi,

I'm moving soon so will be withour broadband for a couple of weeks. I was wondering, would I be able to link my laptop and SPV M3100 and use the SPV3100 as a modem. Then using the unlimited data package from Orange for my phone can I use this for my computer? Does this make sense? So basically, I can get some internet connection through using the 3g and Orange data.

IF this can be done, how?

Paddy

It's definatly easy. I'm using a Vario II from T-Mo, but I spose urs is similar cuz of this part of the forum

Neway, make sure ur phone doesnt have a dataconnection already. Disable pushmail and then tap the button for closing ur dataconnection (if any ofcos).

Hook up ur phone by USB to ur computer or notebook, from the programs menu start the wireless modem application. The click menu and hit start.

Ull notice the active sync connection getting disconnected and if this is the first time u do this, ur puter will find some new hardware and will attempt to install the drivers for it.

Ie. ull get to see HTC USB Modem or summit similar. Those drivers came with the CD of ur phone, or can be downloaded from the HTC website as well.

Now make a new dial-up connection, use *99# as the number to dial and there u go.

Bluetooth is possible as well, but I wouldn't recommend the wireless modem stuff. Just pair ur phone, from ur BT settings create an incoming connection. The create an new connection and use Modem over Bluetooth or summit like that.

Good luck!

If you have WM6, then use Internet Sharing and BT PAN on your PC...

I think "Internet Sharing" (which is by FAR the easiest way I've ever come across of doing it) comes with AKU3 so if you have the latest WM5 ROM for the 3100 installed you may have that as an option. My Vodafone V1605 is WM5 but has AKU3 and has Internet Sharing instead of the previous "Modem" application.

I connect by USB, but you cannot have ActiveSync running. Since I don't use AS (I use OTA Exchange Sync) I simply installed AS to get the drivers up and running, and then uninstalled it again.

Then connect the phone by USB cable and select Internet Sharing application. Set the connection type as USB (if that's your option) and Network Connection as "Contract Internet" (again as appropriate) and select the Connect option at the bottom. You'll see the network icon appear in Windows as it searches for an IP address. The phone gives it an IP and then you are connected!

I have just connected to the Internet using a Vista laptop with a bluetooth dongle. I connected this to a "network" consisting of my m3100 running on 3's £5 per month broadband. Everythign worked well first time with great access speeds. I used the utility on the m3100 mentioned earlier in this thread.

Hi,

Orange don't actually let you do that...but I managed to get away with it for 9 months and they didn't notice - used about 1gb per month every month.

I'd say that this is the coolest way to do it, I've not tried it though. I found USB and internet sharing worked the best for me.
