So despite having ActiveSync set to be connected to the internet the phone, when plugged into phone complains it can't see the Exchange server, with the usual 85020006 error. Reset the phone. Reinstalled ActiveSync. No luck

And annoyingly Visual Studio doesn't see or deploy to the device now either.

i feel for ya!!

i get this sort of problem about once a month! there is no rhyme or reason for it to suddenly stop working but you can guarantee spending best part of a morning or afternoon messing about wih settings to get it all back working again! i used to sync to Exchange thru an IPSec tunnel when working from home or directly when in the office and on the LAN but it just stopped working! i managed to fix it - unfortunately not sure how - and all was good for about another week or two before it (the phone, ActiveStink, the tunnel, the server - i dont know which) went wrong again.

Now i simply sync with the laptop - way less than ideal but the only way i dont waste time messing about.

now dont get me started on how slow the phne runs when usb'd to the PC...

Same here. ActiveSync is totally inconsistent. Without changing any settings, one day it works, the other it won't. It's a pain in the back side, and has been like this for the last 3 phones I've had (SPV C500, QTEK 8500 and SPV E650). Each new release of ActiveSync has the same sync problem but a slightly different, although very unhelpful, error.

Initial connection to the PC, starts ActiveSync and my whole PC grinds to a halt, as does my phone while activesync connects, syncs.

I'd say 5 out of 10 times it actually syncs successfully. The 5 failures, are even after reboots. It sucks.

Settings -> Connections -> USB to PC -> Enable advanced network functionality

Switch this to OFF (unmarked)!

yup. done that. twice.

its the first place to go when things start going wonky but it doesn't seem to solve the problem every time. Either its gone wrong whilst unmarked or you're unmarking it because it seems to have switched on. In either scenario, it may start working again marked or unmarked!

i would luv to spend the time doing a complete analysis of the possiblepermtuations but its like windscreen wipers - they only stop working in the rain - just when you need them most!

i just live with it and try to enjoy the cursing and swearing when it happens

Hello. Could someone clarify the location of the

Settings -> Connections -> USB to PC -> Enable advanced network functionality

switch please? Is this in activestink? I have a new Vox, AS V4.5.0 and win xp. I am also having no luck any more syncing to my exchange server via the usb connection. I hate to say it, but 'it just stopped working'!!!

Thanks

Jon

i'm starting to hate active sync and exchange push as well ... especially as i'm running a blackberry enterprise server as well but those damn users want the fancy devices :P

anyway, prime annoyances are

1. Orange SPV devices asking for the password to be re-entered up to a 5 times a day even though it's entered and saved in the settings. Other devices though, such as the Nokia E61 also on orange, are not showing this problem.

2. 0x85010014 sync error which a. can basically mean anything but it is generally b. a corrupt item in the email/calendar/contacts which i have to spend ages trying to locate and delete from the user's mailbox on the server. if outlook clients, pop3 clients, blackberry clients can deal with the mail item then why the hell can't MS Push Email?

3. My current annoyance (which I haven't been able to get my hands on a device to do much investigation) that keeps showing this is with the SPV E650 and active sync sitting there saying 'connecting'. It can say that for what seems like forever and it pretty much locks the device up. Odd thing is I'm running three E650's and one of them has never shown this symptom, but the other two regularly do. The solution atm appears to be to take the battery out and try again ;)

NB I don't ever use a physical connection to ActiveSync, always MS Push via GPRS/Edge/3G/Internet to an Exchange Server sitting behind an ISA Firewall.

If anyone has any suggestions for (3) I'd love to hear them :)

its on the phone and can be found by going into settings and then connections and then push Zero to go to the next page and its the only option there. Feel free to check and uncheck to your absolute hearts content - for all the good it does!!!! :) :P

what will actually happen is that you will spend the next hour or two messing about with it, trying different things checkd/uncheckd on both the phone and the AS service running on your PC and it will all spring back into life and you wont be completely sure why......

Thanks Samsonite. As a seasoned traveller i have come to reply in your bags and luggage, very good quality thanks!

Anyway, on to the problem. I can't believe I was so stupid as to not have checked the phone for these settings! In fact, on the way home in the car i thought about it, tried it when i got back and hey presto. I changed the setting, turned the phone off and on, connected it up and activestink was smelling of roses again!!!!!!

I will however reserve judgement on the overall stability of the setting as it has already managed to self set which is what caused the problem in the first place.

So, thanks for the advice and good luck with your own device.

This probably won't help anyone who's been getting intermittent connectivity problems, but since sorting my problem I've gone from never getting network access on the phone when connected via USB to a PC to getting it for the first time today. It remains to be seen whether it'll give me a reliable connection.

If you go into Start / Settings / Connections / Menu / Advanced / Menu / Advanced, there's yet another field where you can choose your network when connected to a PC. Choose Internet.

Hope I remembered this right and hope it helps. It's a very deeply buried setting and it took me a while to find it.
