Rubber USB Cover won't stay shut

The small rubber cover on the bottom of my S710 will not stay closed.

It looks like it relies on friction to stay shut but after only a couple of months, it will not longer stay in place so is just flapping about getting in the way.

Now my previous phone (an iMate Jamin) had a USB port on the bottom with no cover and never seemed to have a problem so I seem to have 2 options.

1. I remove said bit of rubber. I am guessing if I pull it hard enough it will come out

2. I send it in as faulty but this means I am without my S710 for x number of weeks and who knows if the fix will last.

So any thoughts? Has anybody else got this problem and if so, what have you done?

Thanks

I have exactly the same problem, and was going to raise the same questions as you Networkguy.

I don't want to remove the rubber cover unless I really have to as it will spoil the look of the phone, especially if not done correctly, and also reduce it's value for a resale.

It's becoming a real pain. Seem a bit daft to have a cover on it anyway being as this is the port that is used most often.

Has anyone just yanked theirs off ? ( :P I might have to rephrase that :) )

If anyone has removed their cover, how did they do it?

you can actually remove that annoying rubber flab without destroying it. I have done so, and i was even able to put it back.

now, if you open the battery cover you will see that there is a little ... err ... lump? that holds the whole thing in its place. now if you push the flab upwards (with the phone's screen facing down), it'll just come off; not very easily, but eventually it will.

now if you find some other vox owner who is annoyed by this (still intact) flab, you might actually replace it. i dont think you will get one from other than from htc or whereever you bought the phone..

My USB cover seems to stay shut with out a problem (but I think I will still remove it). The problem I have it that the memory card cover won't close correctly, it just bulges out in the middle. Can with be removed aswell?

I have the same problem with the memory card cover also but at least the rubber thing has a notch to keep it closed so all is not lost.

As for the other bit, thanks to ombre as I have now been able to remove it without breaking it and thus am able to put it back again (or even replace it) at a later date.

Looking at the rubber thing I think that becuase I have the phone connected to the PC via the USB cable a lot when in the office, the rubber has reshaped itself a little hence it does not hold anymore. I think a note to HTC is called for to see if they can just ship me a new one under warranty.

Thanks all.

Thanks all.

Same here, sync'd all day every week day.

Plastic would've been better, or even another sliding mechanism, if it is needed at all.

Not many other phones have such a cover for a port used so frequently.

I've not experienced this problem yet, but I'm afraid I will. I've heard some other people guessing that the expanding of the rubber covers is caused by high temperature in pockets. This might sound wierd, but have any of tried to cool them down after removing them? I thought maybe that would make them go back to normal size.

Yeah, i know.. wierd thought :)

It did annoy me too and in an act of "getting mad about it" I did cut the damm thing off.. Sadly, as I read ombre33´s Post, I do realize its possible to take it away without "broken" it... Anyway, I am really happy as it is now, i can plug the usb right away without fighting and in my opinion, the Phone looks better so.

As for the Memory Card.. Having aswell the same Problem, but it seems like this one will not be possible to take away without cutting it off, and I dont like the thought of the memory card being free to be shoot out if some accidently pressure may go on.

The rubber insert for the usb port stopped playing nice for me after only a few days after I got the phone.

And the rubber insert (eventhough there's only a tiny hock on the one side that holds it there) for the sdcard has always buldged outward.

After reading this thread I sucessfully removed the rubber flap for the usb port. Without doing permanent damage I think, atleast it won't disturb me in the same way anymore.

But this whole issue was one of my largest annoyences after getting the phone, I loved it so in all other regards that I did not understand how they could fail in an area where noone else have problems.. The firrgin rubber flap on my iAUDIO mp3 player has worked perfectly for many years!

Sheesh.

I am getting the problem with the memory card cover but not so much with the USB port cover. Probably because I find it faster to take the memory card out and put stuff on that and replace it into the phone.. installs and such.

I am surprised that HTC/Orange didnt ship a set of these to be used with the phone - spares and such. It seems the sales package is a little tight in the fact you

dont get any replacement earbud covers or anything like that.

My biggest gripe with the Win Mobile phones is really quite simple - anything useful has been pared away to the absolute minimum. SMS information for example is non existant - unless you spend money. Its all we'll sell you a cripplephone and you can pay to upgrade. Symbian phones do all of this as standard and have done that for years (even the 'cut-down' S60 based machines). But for the lack of WiFi I would be using my 9300 as a jesusphone yet...

Am I to understand that a S710 customer gets a free case for the phone as well ... this hasnt been supplied to me...

Jemma xx
