Hi Guys,

I am keen to return the favors to a few friends about programming only trouble is I have no idea where to start and what to learn.

I have got the Embeded Tools 3+ and the SDK now what do I do, do I need to learn C++ or some lanuage like that?

Once Ive learnt this do I then just start programming and use the SDK to compile it and hey presto (in theory of course)?

I've seen a few posts lately that people want to start learning C or C++ but if you've had no previous programming experience, is it wise to start learning a difficult language?

I hadn't done any intensive programming before university and I hated C when they dumped me into it, but after 4 years and a lot of hard work I managed to get my head around it (but I still hate it  ) I have to admit though that I am not a born programmer.

It is a shame that Embedded VB doesn't work with the SmartPhone OS because that would be easier on the newbies.

I'm curious MBoden, how long did it take you to get the hang of C, and what was the first programming language u learned?

I started learning Basic 22 years ago, 20 years ago it was assembler, 16 years ago i learned C/C++ from a book over a weekend

Everything i know is selftaught

i would probably call myself a born programmer if it didn't sound so bad

Yeah... I started programming basic on some cheesy "laptop" that my dad had that took mini cassettes and had a small lcd screen. Taught myself C from a book on Borland C++ for DOS. I remember it used to be such a hassle using the full Borland C++ for windows suite... it was so big, almost 10 floppys, who can spare that kind of space.

But I've never done ASM and never really did that much C, I'm totally high end languages for work, like VB, SQL, ASP, javascript.

Many, many years ago, I did a night class in C, purely for personal interest, can anyone recommend an update to help me get to grips with the changes and particularly C++, so I can start to develop small apps for my smartphone? My requirement is more in the line of a memory refresh and update. I don't use any programming skills professionally, but I am keen to learn, so a recomended reading list or web sites would be a help!

thanx

[EDIT] Sorry! just read another post that has some good linx and info in it, just goes to show... search first, post question later! [EDIT]
