Once I make an Edge (or GPRS) connection to the Internet or Orange's WAP pages (OrangeWorld) I tend to close the browser/email/messenger programs & then disconnect the connection.

Later when I look at the home screen, it looks like I'm still connected. the small 'E' or 'G' above signal strength meter.
I do not think that I'm not actually connected because if I browse to a page or check email, I see the 'connecting' screen which makes me believe that the little 'G' is lying

It's weird, becasue the small 'E' or 'G' above signal strength meter does not appear until I've initiated the connection & then disconnected. It seems to re-appear later on at some point.

I've not installed anything except Googlemaps, but I know the issue was happening out the box.

Anyone know why this is happening? Just a bug ?? :)

Phone History:
Original Motorola flip (pre-digital), various Nokias including loads of the "Matrix-style" flip/slide that kept breaking, then I saw the LIGHT.........

A plain "G" or "E" just means you have GPRS or EDGE reception, you are not connected until you get the 2 arrows below it, as for the connection dropping,  thats probably just orange.
