Guest dc/dc Posted September 18, 2007 Report Share Posted September 18, 2007 I did some digging as I had heard of a registry hack for the Treo 750 that would disconnect the packet data connection upon a specified timeout. I have located it and applied it to my i607, and it functions as intended. I am fairly certain that battery life will improve, though I've not had time to test that. To apply this to your device, go to HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings\ Under CacheTime, set the decimal value to 60. This is the amount of time in seconds your BJ will wait before ending the packet data connection. Under SuspendResume, remove the string "~GPRS!" and replace it with "GPRS_bye_if_device_off". This change tells the device to obey the time set in CacheTime and sever connection, vice the default setting of leaving the connection all the time. I have my BJ set to check every 15 (though I'd love it to check every 5). It checks the mail, then disconnects. I've not tested with DirectPush as I don't use that service. While I don't take any responsibility if you brick your device, I'd like to hear others' experiences with their i607 and or an i600 owner if one feels adventurous. Guest dc/dc Posted September 18, 2007 Report Share Posted September 18, 2007 UPDATE: Well, today was the first day of usage after applying this edit, and I can say that the improvement seems HUGE! I am currently roaming in an EDGE-only area (Unicell), and I spent the majority of the day in a building with no service. I checked my meter at 4 PM, and I have only used about 7% of the extended battery. I used almost the entire slim battery yesterday whilst traveling to my current location without the edit applied. This included several hours with the radio off whilst in the airplane. The only other edit applied is to force EDGE only (though I utilized 3G in Philadelphia during my 2 hour layover to check flight status and read the news). Tried to do that on my I600 upgraded to WM6, but can't do it, because its registry is locked from editing, do not know how to apply that hack p.s. - found a solution, fixed. I hope this could solve the internet can't access problem too (eg: I travel from house to office, the EDGE connection is up, but HTTP Port 80, 25, 110 can't access at all...need restart phone only can) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Metro area here is predominantly 3G I made sure that I did a restart immediately after. Will certainly look forward to not having to disconnect manually. Was getting frustrated when I got sidetracked and forgot upon too many occasions. It just so happens my primary means of remembering was when the device got noticably warm. If my memory serves, this was possibly a menu option in the GPRS Connection settings, maybe Advanced choices. Not sure which version of Windows Mobile though. Got a link for your source? Any idea how this might affect DUN connections? Would like to use handset for multiple things (web, IM, POP3, modem/router access -connection sharing) but, screwing with Tom Tom, Google Earth, WLS, etc may not be an option. I'm interested to see if it works in WM6 because I will be upgrading as soon as the official version is available. You are correct in that there is a disconnect option in the connections menu, but as soon as Outlook goes and looks for new messages, it re-opens the packet data connection and leaves it open again. I don't have the link to my source, but I believe I found it on treocentral. Also, I have no idea if this will affect DUN connections as I don't use that feature, but I would imagine that it would. I recently wiped my Blackjack and forgot to put this back in place when I was reinstalling everything, and I was appalled at how quickly my battery would drain.
