I have been playing with a touch the last couple of days. Have to say.. i think it's a piece of crap. I dont see what all the fuss is about. The touchflo is useless for anything other than showing your friends, then as soon as you need to do something other than check the weather, you have tiny WM6 nonsense to deal with.. so someone tell me what all the fuss is about?

So tell me.. whats teh big deal.. i've been using different keyboards to get text in and they're all slower than my I600 thumbpad.. I have no idea why anyone would even buy this phone. It's pants!

I have had a few HTC phones, C500, 600, SPV M5000 and my previous one was the SPV E650 or HTC S710. The Touch is by far the best phone I have had, yes does need more memory and a faster CPU, bit surprised they only put a crappy 200mhz CPU in and 64mb ram into a PDA but I love it, the touch flo is not useless, it maybe a gimmick but a great one, I find scrolling through my contacts or browsing web pages very fast. found it annoying always having to use the stylus to move the scroll bars on my previous PDA phone, now I just swipe the screen  

I have no problems using only my hand to browse the menus but I do sometimes use the stylus as I like to keep the screen smudge free  

I also find typing texts/emails very fast, I can type out using my thumb a full 160 character text in under a min, took me longer using the SPV E650 keyboard. Plus I have my tomtom navigator 6 on it and the phone handles it perfectly

I agree. I've had mine since Tuesday, and I love it. I'm 14, and I love showing off with it. It needs more memory, storage and CPU,  but it's great. I'm never going back to normal phones.

ok ok, without wishing to be patronising.. let me rephrase the question..

whats so special about the 'Touch' that the other smartphones cant do better, faster and with more useability..
I'm not interested in 'the cube' interface.. why the heck are people so into this.. for price? or is it so the market opens up to a younger crowd.. but then you gotta be a geek (like us) to get into the interface.. once you click past the cube screen.. you're backin WM6 land..

The 'Touch' is pointless.

The only thing special about the Touch for me is its size. When the LG KS20 comes out, i'll most likely be upgrading to that since its more powerfull and nearly identical in dimensions to the Touch.

The 'Touch' is pointless.

I have had a number of devices recently - the Wizard, Hermes, Athena and now the Touch.  I never really felt I would get on with the Touch, but having looked at in an Orange store recently, I fell in love.  The Touch is a small basic PPC Phone IMHO, nothing more and nothing less.  The new Touch slide is bigger than I'd tolerate now for a lack of keyboard and is almost the same dimensions as a Kaiser!  I use my Athena for work and Touch for personal use.  Other smartphones either have the lack of functionality and compatibility or lack a touchscreen.  The cube interface merely makes up for the lack of hardware keys IMHO and whilst an impressive gimmick is no more useful than that unless you use the device socially.  That said, this is the most complete device out of the box that I have ever seen, without a real glitch to me, I don't even find the device slow as I usually pack the more powerful devices full of apps.

Bottom line - you can negate the lack of storage by buying a 6Gb SDHC card for under £40 now, overclock the processor and tweak the software.  Seems all good to me!

Throw the gimmicky Cube into Touch. Use a normal PPC and SPB Mobile Shell. Much faster, just as good for thumb control, but does a LOT more as a launcher, and you can customise it to work the way you want.

I cant fault it.

As a basic pocket pc, its fast, quicker than ones I've had before.  The size is excellent, fits in my shirt top pocket without really noticing it - really thin and convenient.

The Touchflo system is good too.  I find it easy to use and again very convenient, saves taking the stylus out all the time.
