I live in Dorset and when I did the network check on T-Mobiles site it said that there was no data signal anywhere in Dorset that I put a post code in to! Regardless of this I ordered one anyway, I really wanted the Ameo and when I did data checks on Cornwall it said there was a data signal at a fair amount of the surfing spots we go to. Anyway, the Ameo has been here a week now and I have got a data signal everywhere I have been so far in Dorset! I'd even previously spoke to T-Mobile who told me that they had no plans to put a data signal around here. The moral is, if you are thinking of getting a web'n'walk plan with T-Mobile and thier site tells youu there is no signal then go for it anyway! You can always send your phone back if it turns out you have no signal, if you have done the online checks. Has anyone else bought the Ameo (or any other phone) on web'n'walk after being told there was no data signal and it turned out otherwise? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest Neil5459 Posted November 19, 2007 Report Share Posted November 19, 2007 By 'no data signal' do they mean no 3G? When you are connected does your connection icon show 'G' or '3G' ? All GSM masts will be able to use GPRS (G), so there will always be some sort of data signal available, though maybe not the fast speeds that 3G is capable of. As far as I know, ALL phone masts for the past few years have been able to handle GPRS data, as it is simply piggybacked onto the normal voice carrier signal. TBH, you won't miss 3G as long as you are not doing data intensive things like downloading files, streaming media content or viewing graphics heavy websites. If you are in a non-3G area, one tip is to stop your Ameo trying to connect to 3G. Connection to 3G, or repeated attempts to find and connect to a 3G signal has a significant hit on battery drain. Constraining it to GSM will see your battery last typically 30-50% longer on a charge. Go to Phone/Menu/Options/Band and set the top selection box from Auto to GSM.
