Hi, I was wondering if NOT haveing a data package effects the GPS? In other words, with NOT haveing a data package on my phone can I still use googlemaps or liveserch?

GPS itself works without data....
but both the programs you listed require data to download maps and info.

You'd need to buy a standalone product such as TomTom or Copilot which comes with maps you can store on your storage card.
I still exist

Ok so has anyone had any luck cracking the Verizon GPS lockout on the 9c that they are now shipping? It seems to have the GPS in it but somehow they have locked it out so I will be encouraged to use VZ Navigator at 10 bucks a month - not!
Not much sense in having a upgraded 9c if I cant use the GPS. 30 days and back it goes to verizon. Maybe the returns will casue them to think twice about disabling hardware that belongs to me (well it will belong to them in 29 days - grin)

Anyone...
I am trying to get the GPS to work on the Verizon network. What I need is someone to post the following files from a Q9c or Q9h on Sprint or ATT.
Staright from MOTODEV...
"Where should I look for support on questions related to Global Positioning System or Location Based Service on MOTO Q 9c (Verizon)?
INTRODUCTION:
Location Based Services (LBS) are information services accessible with mobile devices through the mobile network and utilizing the ability to make use of the location of the mobile device. Global Positioning System (GPS) is a part of Location Based Services. GPS is a "constellation" of 24 well-spaced satellites that orbit the Earth and make it possible for people with ground receivers to pinpoint their geographic location. GPS support on the Q 9c (Verizon) is called VZ Navigator. This article tells the point of contact at Verizon for issues regarding LBS or GPS on MOTO Q 9c(Verizon).
RESOLUTION:
The LBS functionality on MOTO Q 9c (Verizon) is not accessible through Microsoft LBS APIs. It is only accessible through the software VZ Navigator from Verizon. VZ Navigator is a GPS navigation software by Verizon wireless.
CONCLUSION:
GPS or LBS issues on MOTO Q 9c (Verizon) -- Questions should be directed to Verizon at the above email address."
My thought is that they have replaced the drivers that the GPSID API is supposed to talk to. This is most likely also disabling the COM port access to the radio from 3rd party apps. If I could get the following files from another providers phone then we can compare to see what they have done.
Files I need:
gpsid.dll
gpsapi.dll
gpsclientdrvr.dll
motgpsapi.dll
LBSDriver.dll
LBSDriver.dll.* (there ase some LBSDriver.dll.####.mui files)
I prefer these files from a phone that the GPS has been fixed to work with GMaps and WLS.
If you can also export HKLM and HKCU registry keys, that would be perfect.
Thanks.

FYI the com 3 hack work perfectly on my MOTO Q global. No power drain when not in use and the intermediate driver works as well. I use Garmin XT, Route 66, Google maps, and Vitto space explorer.

I installed the COM3 cab and nothing seems to be working. I tested with GPS test and after a while it stops at GPS off, and both Live and Google Maps fail to initialize...Any ideas/suggestions.
I tried power cycling and that didn't work, neither intermediate or COM 3 gets anything in WLS. Tried changing back my settings to [email protected] with no pass and now can't get internet. ARGH.
I have Moto q 9h with AT&T.

I have downloaded the com3 activation and I see NO file with a .CAB extension. Am I missing something? How do I get my phone to recognize the file? Help!

I have the Q9H from Rogers in Canada and read nearly every page of this post, very well written and helpful. I was able to install the cab and use GPS test. I then ran google maps, and it worked, however, after shutting down all programs and trying again google maps could not find the sats (have the settings to manual com3 38400) but gps test still works.
Any ideas?
Also, does this cab ONLY turn on the GPS when it is requested? IE running gpstest, or google maps, or co-pilot (that I want to buy tomorow)

When I try using settings.exe it either errors out if I pick com ports (could be I really don't know which I should pick) or tells me "Failed to update GPS driver." Does anyone know anything more about how to use settings.exe other than run from the phone and click done? When I do that it gives me the fail message.

Nevermind... I tried it again right after I wrote this post and it worked. I get a lock on GPS test now. Just to get the right maps into route 66.

I am new to this so hope I am not barking up the wrong tree. On another forum regarding the same GPS issues, someone posted the following message attributed to Moto Developer Support:
"I would recommend against using the tool from MoDaCo. It keeps the GPS running all the time and will drain your battery very quickly. Both WLS and (at least) the non Java version of Google Maps will use the Intermediate driver out of the box.
Instead I would download the official tool from Microsoft (Alas is it in a huge download, and while the license says one can distribute it with your own software, it does not say if you can distribute it standalone or I would provide just the file) that lets you do this. The link for the SDK I have provided above. The file is "Windows Mobile 6 SDK\Tools\GPS\settings.exe".
This allows you to turn on and off the COM Port Multiplexing , set the COM Port, BPS rate, etc. at will. When it is playing nice, it will start and stop the GPS Engine only when something is talking to the COM port.
I have found it may take a reboot to get it to kick in, and some fiddling to get it to only run the GPS when needed, but it is way better than the DoMoCo solution, and is part of the OS (Well Mobile 6 Pro anyways)
It is does really Unlock anything, this is a normal feature built into the specs of the OS, it just changes a couple registry settings. This tool is provided with all touchscreen versions of Windows Mobile 6 BTW."
I assume that the writer was referring to the original MoDaCo hack for Com 5 and is unaware of the Com 3 update. With that being said, I'm wondering if this suggestion works. I've installed the file on my AT&T Q9h and it does seem to work, although I haven't yet actually tried the settings (I'm hesitant to do so until I can get some advice from someone with a great deal more experience than me). I'm including Settings.exe and the related ReadMe file and would appreciate any thoughts/comments.

The first thing to note is that you won't see system files, including .CAB's when using "My Stuff" You'll need to use "File Explorer" and browse to where you saved the file.
Hope this helps.

So I thought I'd add to the questions by asking about whether this should work for the Moto Q9c on Alltel.
I can't see any GPS Settings anywhere and after I install the cab file from this thread Google Maps and Live Search can't locate me using GPS.
After installing this .cab file, which I do see in the add/remove list on my phone, do I need to do anything els?
Thanks in advance
Craig
