Even though I am subscribing to my carrier's service for callerID, most of my incoming calls are labeled as unknown by my phone.  In fact, I am subscribing to the caller name service wich doesn't require the caller to be in my contacts to show the name.  When I get my sim card back in my previous phone (Razor V3) all is fine.  

SO...
A-Should my carrier know about wich phone I use?  And if so, even if they don't sell any Blackjack?
B-Is this a software issue?

I own an unlocked Samsung Blackjack from Cingular.  I am using it on the Canadian network Fido wich is owned by Rogers.

How are the numbers stored? some with international prefix and some without? Are teh ones that display all stored in one format and the ones that don't display in another format?

Just a thought.

All my numbers are stored using the same pattern.  

As for the inconsistency, I could not find a pattern that would help to resolve this annoying issue.  This is the reason that veered me into thinking that the carrier should know the model of my phone.

One idea, could it be related to that caller name functionality opposed to simple caller id (numbers) being send to the phone.

Check for duplicate contacts on both the phone and sim card. Make sure only 1 of each number exist on either the phone or sim card but not on both - not that it should matter but worth a try. I'll have a quick look to see if there's anything else and edit this post if i do.

Edit: Nothing found - have you pissed about with the registery? Also dumb question but have you stored the numbers in the correct place i.e. mobile numbers under 'mobile' etc? If none of those apply then it's most likely the number the network is sending may be in a different format which the phone does not recognise. It's like o2 UK had problems sending the message that turns on the voicemail indicator on the earlier symbian phones.

1 other thing you can try:

1) Delete all your contacts off phone and sim (make sure you back them up first) and just add 1 number which you can call from and work your way from there.
if that don't work then:
2) Hard reset the phone and repeat step 1

Tried the hard reset... Now I am more in thinking that format the phone company is sending the number in is different than what the phone is expecting...  Wonder if they could help in some ways...

How cool are the providers with unlocked phone?
