Screen not turning off?

Not sure if you are having the same issue as I am. My display will turn off after 15 seconds if it is unlocked (screen brightness at normal). It will stay that way but sometimes I just want to check the time and would just press the action button (center button) or the navigation wheel and the display will turn on in dim mode. This is when the display will never turn off again. It will stay in dim mode until I actually unlock it and wait 15 seconds before the display to turn off. I'm thinking it's a bug.

I lock the phone, it goes dim, but never off :(

Hammers the battery a bit!

I think it's related to locking the phone, if I don't lock it, it seems to turn off correctly...

Odd!

Your issue is slightly different from mine. Did you check Settings > Power Management? Maybe your "Display time out on battery" is changed to Never by accident?

I've noticed some strange behavior as well. It seems like whenever my Shadow is plugged into my computer, the screen stays black all the time unless I'm using it. However, when I plug it into the wall, the screen will go dim, and stay that way for several minutes, before finally turning off.

I had this problem happen yesterday. The screen wouldn't turn off no matter what I did (even resetting didn't fix the problem). I thought the problem was with the profile manager I was trying out (phoneAlarm SP) so I uninstalled it and then rebooted again. Then it worked as expected and turned off after being dim for about 10 seconds.

I originally thought it was the uninstall that fixed it, but now that I read this thread and see that other people have had this problem then perhaps that wasn't the fix after all... it might just have been rebooting again.

From my experience any changes in the phone's registry that the phone doesn't exactly like (for example a changed setting that the phone won't accept) forces the phone to never turn off the screen. I have seen this happen several times and maybe some installations have a bad registry entry or something.

Fixing the registry changes have always solved the problem for me.

I have the same issue where the backlight is at half brightness and the screen is still active. One thing I'm going to try is to set the Backlight timeout and the Display timeout to be the same.

That was the first thing I'd tried when the problem showed up for me. It didn't help any. No changes in the power settings did.

A strange bug though, as it doesn't effect everyone -- mine works fine :(

Ladies and gentlemen - I think we have a bug! :D

Mine works normal, unless I close the the phone with Extreme Text open in a chat. If I have XT open, it just stays dim and doesn't turn off. Hit the home screen, then it dims and turns off as expected. Weird.
