Users of Office 2007 can now rejoice for Microsoft have (officially) released an upgrade to make O2k7 files compatible with Office Mobile 6 :(

Quote

Microsoft Office 2007 introduced new Open XML-based file formats  for Office applications. These new file formats reduce file size,  improve security and reliability, and enhance integration with external  sources.

To allow Windows Mobile users to work with Office documents created in  the Open XML formats, Microsoft has developed an upgrade for Word  Mobile, Excel Mobile, and PowerPoint Mobile applications. This upgrade  to the Office Mobile applications allows viewing and editing of Word  documents and Excel workbooks and viewing of PowerPoint slideshows  created by using Microsoft Office 2007.

  Other improvements include:

  • Enhanced viewing experience for charts in Excel Mobile.
  • Ability to view SmartArt in PowerPoint Mobile.
  • Ability to view and extract files from compressed (.zip) folders.

Microsoft Office Mobile 6.1 Full Version to support Microsoft 2007 file formats

If your Windows Mobile device does not have a version of Microsoft  Office Mobile prior to 6.1, you can purchase the full version of  Microsoft Office Mobile.

The Office Mobile application suite includes Microsoft Office Word  Mobile, Excel Mobile, and Microsoft Office PowerPoint® Mobile for  Windows Mobile 6 powered devices, helping users manage and review  documents. Microsoft Office Mobile includes support for rich reviewing  and minor editing capabilities as well as support for rights-managed  documents.

The primary user scenario enabled by Office Mobile is viewing e-mail  attachments, performing minor edits, sharing document versions, and  opening documents from an SD card or a SharePoint server. Office Mobile  provides a high-fidelity document viewing experience, with capability  to edit as well as fast performance in loading the first page of the  document.

Note: This free upgrade works only for Windows Mobile powered devices  that have an earlier version of Office Mobile. If your Windows Mobile  powered device does not have Office Mobile applications, this upgrade  will not work for you. You can purchase the full version of Office  Mobile 6.1 online. For more information, click here  -http://www.microsoft...bileoffice.mspx.

You can grab the upgrade HERE.

Obviously you havent been able to give it a full "road test" as of yet, but thus far what do you think of it?

Tired of waiting for the Tilt, Kaiser, P4550, 8925, Vario III, TyTn II.

The filename ends in "US", so I bet it will only install if the device settings are on US. Shame they seem to have forgotten the rest of the English speaking world.

Well this sucks.

Guys, please can you post the actual error messages and your device config (type and language setting) so I can pursue this with the product team.

Thanks!
Paul

Installation cannot continue.  The language settings on your Windows Mobile powered device do not match the installer.

Try again with the correct language edition of Office Mobile 6.1

My device is a box standard Orange E650 (vox) in the UK.  Regional Settings "UK English", Locale "English (United Kingdom)"

Changed my Regional Settings to "US English" rebooted phone and then the installer ran correctly.  After the install set my regional settings back and it's working perfectly, reading a .docx right now...

(install takes like 10 mins and a phone reboot)

How do you tell the version of the current version installed?  The version on my recently purchased Tytn II already supports .DOCX files?

When you're in Word, can you still set the language to UK English for spell checking etc. ?

The word back on installation is to change your regional settings to US English and then do the install.

No news on the version issue yet.

The TyTN II/MDA Vario III/etc.  already has office 6.1 installed, can easily check by opening or creating a word doc and selecting about from menu.

Thats a real dissapointment. Not that I wasn't satisfied with the current version, but I'm always excited to get an upgrade for my kaiser.

Does Modaco DoNew work with the upgrae to 6.1.  Is Word and Excel Mobile 6.1 able to open Word and Excel Documents saved in Office 2007 file format by Documents To Go 3.0010 (380)?

The precise message when you run the English installer for a non-US English device is: "Installation cannot continue. The language settings on your Windows Mobile powered device do not match the installer. Try again with the correct language edition of Office Mobile 6.1"
My device is an Orange SPV E650 in UK English.
Changing the regional settings on the device to US English and trying again works fine (and then changing back again after install completes). So, either the installer should read "US English Installer" and a proper one for the rest of the English speaking world provided, or the installer updated to install on any English version.

When you run the dialogs they make all kinds of checks on your phone.  Quite fancy customactions too!

To get it to install without making any checks you run it silently
Open a CMD prompt and type:
msiexec /i "<path to>\OfficeMobile_Licensed_0409_US.msi" /qb
The /qb option also gets around this error
