Which device for a newbie?

Hi all,

I'm new to the world of windows devices and would like a bit of help choosing a device. I am probablygoing to go for a used device from Ebay or similar with a budget of £150. Basically I want to get my emails, run GPS, check the weather etc and surf the web as cheaply as possible. I have read about PAYG on 3 and this would seem to suite the bill perfectly as I have a contract mobile for calls, although I would like the option of VOIP calls. I have a wireless network at home and go through loads of WIFI hotspots during the day so I guess I need WIFI. Not sure whether I need windows 5 or 6 and I guess wordprocessing would be handy. I am confused by all the names; kaiser, XDA, SPV etc so would love a few pointers towards a decent device. I would prefer a big screen and weight isn't too important. I have been looking at QTEK 9100's but they seem to be outdated, is this the case? Any help would be great.

Cheers Jim

The Qtec 9100 is the wizard which was good in it's day but has been superceeded, still a good phone tho.

One of my favourites is the Universal if you don't mind the size is a great device and having a quick look on ebay (Search O2 Exec) it looks like you should be able to get one in your price range.

WiFi eats the battery tho and I haven't used it since I got unlimited data.

Why not get a contract though and get a new phone with it?

Good luck

Hi guys,

Thanks for getting back to me. I can live without a qwerty keyboard, but why do you ask? Been really tempted by a tytn, v1605 on ebay as they seem to fit the bill. Does anyone have an opinion on them?

Cheers Jim

I've been trawling this site for a while now as I'm keen on getting the Tytn II but I'm getting a bit nervous about doing so. Having read lots of posts regarding problems / bugs / issues with various things such as bluetooth, alarms, software, call quality etc. I'm wondering whether it's worth getting the Tytn II.

I'll want to make calls (obviously), connect to the internet either by 3G or wi-fi, use the GPS functions, connect to my car kit via bluetooth, occasionally use the phone as an alarm clock and make the most of the vast amount of other functions the Tytn II has.

Am I being unnecessarily nervous or are there real problems with the Tytn II? Or are the amount of posts giving a distorted view of this device? I'd really like to buy one and get stuck into using it.
