I need to know how to hard reset without going into the menus. my phone is stuck on the welcome screen so i need to know how to hard reset

Power the Shadow off.  Hold down the two soft buttons (The two right under the screen) and turn it back on.  There should be a quick menu that pops up asking if you want to reset it.  Say yes, let it reboot, and it will then start restoring your phone to defaults.

go to the tmobile official website, download the new update for shadow, connect phone to computer, run active sync, and run the update
