12# symbol on Touch Dual?

Hello there,

I've finally got home & opened my lovely new shiny Touch Dual today all very exciting.

One wierd thing at the mo I cant find any details on in the manual...

On the stutus bar the icon normally used for sms / missed call alerts ( to the left of the connection icon currently showing 3G) I have 12# with an underline.

Just wondered if anyone knew what it represents since I cant find mention of it in the user manual?

Also while I'm bending your provebial ear is the power switch the only way to wakeup after it has set itself to standby?

Cheers

I'm also interested in this question as I'm seeing the same thing with the #12 in the status bar . I also seem to get a blank notification box appear and cannot get rid of without re-starting the phone when the #12 appears so was wondering if this is a known bug with the dual touch?

That is to say, it's related to the mode of the hardware keyboard - just to make that clear! :(

Ok good to know what it actually means - have you come across the problem I mentioned in my post with regards to the blank notification displaying and undissmissable when #12 is displaying in the status barl? Seems a very strange bug. A coworker has the same phone and problem on his. If it's of any interest/help the phones are UK based on the Orange network?

Any help would be appreciated.

I had one last night which I couldn't clear without a restart.

At the time I assumed it was because I was doing too many things at the same time, particularly opening texts before the notification had popped up. It has only happened the once.

Mine is an Orange 12-key and I was trying to work out your 12# query and am now rather embarrassed that it was so obvious ! :(

I would doubt that the 2 things are related though

Hmmm I cant say I have had this problem also 12-key Orange phone, though really its the 16 key version due to the application keys :D... If i select the 12# on the toolbar it opens an empty box which goes the moment i select anywhere on the screen.

On the issue of restarting though I did have to soft reset my device yesterday because it would not power down via the power button. It would sleep with a tap but failed to register a long hold to power down. Wierd

Hi, i have the 20 key version and i too had the same issue. When i came to waking the phone from standby the "12#" appeared along the top. Once i had entered my password to unlock the phone the 'notification' button appeared on the bottom left of the start screen. When clicked it would load a blank screen which you couldnt get rid of.

After playing around with the settings i found out that this problem is linked with the fact that i had to enter a password to unlock the phone. With the password function now disabled (Start/Personal/Lock - untick the promt box) i havent seen the message since!!

Still a big problem tho because i am using my phone without any password on it at the mo.

Are you running your phone with a password? if so try the change and see what happens.

This might be the cause but have no idea how to fix it so that the '12#' sysmbol and empty notification box do not appear.

Let me know what happens.

I have the same problem but only after switching the device on from cold. When I switch on, the 12# appears along with the notification icon. If I click Notification, I get a blank box, which I then hide, repeat ad nauseum. The 12# and the Notification remain until I get a "real" notification like an e-mail or text.

Well I'm glad at least it's not just me seeing this problem.

I do have the password lock and and it seems due to my work policy the option to turn this off is greyed out so I cannot verify if this stops the problem.

Same problem Matt and on Orange UK.

I have a my phone password protected to stop the wife reading my text messages when I'm asleep and reading them out of context :D

I had it set as "simple PIN" with a 4 digit code. On wake-up the 12# is there, and brings up a blank notification, which is largely there all the time.

What's really annoying here is that the left soft key becomes totally useless for its main function of Calendar. If the 12# in the Title bar can't be resolved, can the "notification" in the left soft key be disabled? - so it doesn't change from Calendar on the Homescreen.

Anyway, I've temporarily removed the password protection and hey presto the 12# has gone. Waiting the required 5 minutes (my lock setting). I setup another password. Again simple PIN but changed the keypad entry method to "keyboard". I entered an alphanumeric password and waited 5 minutes. This was a dangerous thing to do as the screen keypad is numeric only. It did react favourably to a predictive text entry, but I couldn't guarantee your code would. Result - instead of 12# in the title bar you get: abc - with the same blank nitification that won't go away.

So, no solution here, but the problem definitely relates to the entry method of your device lock. Perhaps Paul can Lock his with a simple PIN and see if he can replicate the problem?

Here's hoping

A hard rest cured this by the way

I get the same problem and also think it is to do with a security code on start up. The solution is to open a program such as Notes immediately cancel out and the problem clears. Weird - must be something that needs fixing by HTC.
