I was wondering if anybody could give me a staright answer about how AT & T determines if your tethering or not? If its something in the phone then I was wondering if anyboy knows the reg edit to kill this? I called and talked to them myself but they couldn't give me a straight answer. The guy tried telling me there were two different types of kb's like I was retarded. If someone could let me know I'd appreciate it.

Uhm, well, kbit is different than kbyte. Frequently bandwidth is described in kbit instead of kbyte for whatever reason, but conversion isn't too bad...
And how they tell? Well, AFAIK, they have no way of determining if you're tethering or not aside from how much you use the data. They could monitor your connections very closely, but I don't believe they'll really be doing that. Just don't tether too much. If you plan on tethering alot, you'll have to fork over the extra cash.

Depending upon what the device reports to the service provider they could determine how data was flowing through the device. If for example data was going out from the phone to the laptop it all depends upon if they are able to see that. /shrug I don't know how much they can see but you might be able to make an argument about what you do with the data once it reaches the phone.

Ehh, it's true they MIGHT be able to tell, but I'm convinced they won't do anything as long as your only tether every now and then for a little bit here and there....
