I've recently discovered that I seem to be having a problem with video on my Vario II in that after recording a video, the preview screen that appears when you press stop just shows a black screen, and if I press the magnifying glass icon to be taken to the video, it doesn't appear to have been recorded.

I've tried searching for videos anywhere in the phone memory, or on the card and they don't appear to be being saved.

I don't generally record many videos, so I can't remember what the procedure used to be like but it definitely seems to be broken.  Am I being stupid, or is something wrong here?  I think this problem has appeared since I upgraded to WM6.

I have noticed this problem when taking photo's rather than video, but not since I installed WM6.
It was forever taking black images, especially when the photo opportunity was a "one-off" - as though it 'knew' when it was important   (ok, call me paranoid!)

It would rectify itself temporarily after a soft reset, but was sure to reappear a short while later.

Unfortunately, I've no solution - at least not a permanent one. It's worse if there's little or no program memory available so be sure to close all other applications before opening the camera app.

It just adds to the rich tapestry that is *Microsoft*

Yes, I've managed to miss some of my daughter's nativity play that I thought I had recorded because of this problem.  Super.

It has been going on for a while though, and no amount of soft resetting is making any difference to it.  Any other ideas?

I've just stuck a new ROM on my Hermes and this problem with the video recording is still occurring.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

EDIT:  Although I've just discovered it's only a problem when trying to save the video to my sd card.  If I have it saving to the phone memory it works.  Also photos work whether I have them saving on the card or the phone.

At a guess I would say your SD card is at fault - perhaps it is an older card and doesn't support the transfer rate needed for video recording? Sounds unlikely, but worth investigating. What happens if you turn the video quality down to minimum and then try - if it starts working then it could be a transfer rate issue. Or can you borrow a card from anywhere and give it a try?

It's not an old card, and it used to work previously, but I'll try what you suggest.
