Overclock Vox the easier way using Vox-OC

I have written a small program Vox-OC to assist with overclocking Vox using Tornado Power Control(TPC).

No more playing around with the shortcut(.lnk) files required to change the speed. This application will allow you to easily change the speed by selecting the speed from the application. All the three states of TPC (Power_On, Power_Backlightoff, Power_UserIdle) can be tweaked using this application.

This program also includes Load.exe to start TPC in hidden state, it will be placed in the "\Program Files\" directory.

In addition you can now easily add or remove TPC from the startup using this application. This application depends on TPC so make sure that you have it installed on your device memory (not in storage card).

Installation :

1. Install TPC on device memory. TornadoPowerControl14.cab

2. Install Vox OC on device memory. VoxOC_Setup.CAB

3. Done

Now start Vox-OC from start menu and adjust the speed

This application will work on all devices where TPC works.

I have tested only on VOX because thats the only device I have.

People with other devices, Do let me know if it works fine on your device.

p.s.

On uninstalling this will remove load.exe from "\Program Files\" directory, so if you want to keep using TPC without Vox-OC make sure you backup Load.exe.

edit:

program updated.

there was a small mistake

reinstall with the updated program.

Hi. Great app! So, question: Is this just like a "skin" (or front-end GUI) for TPC? Or do I need to run Vox-OC in my startup applications and have it running all the time? Or is a one-and-done app once the numbers are set?

And, can you note what you changed in the latest version? Changelogs are always appreciated.

Any info appreciated...

Thanks,

Jon

no its not a skin actually.

It just does away with the manual editing of the shortcut files (.lnk files).

and you dont need to run this in startup, use this whenever you want to change the speed settings. Thats it. :)

and yeah you need TPC running at startup, you can insert TPC at startup using this application.

this is just the first version.

I'll be posting changelog with newer versions.

By the way, I got too aggressive with the OC speeds and I lost everything. Every time it booted up, it hung immediately. After about 10 attempts at trying to halt the OC during boot, it decided to hard-reset itself and I lost everything I'd done on the phone. It's now back to OEM install.

BUMMER! What's the highest safe speed people have found to be reliable on their VOX's?

I do have Sprite Backup and I'm doing a restore now, but it's from 2 months ago. At least it's something, and I hope it works...

the highest stable speed that i have seen is 264Mhz on the vox.

it should work fine at that speed, but i guess it overheats a little when at that speed along with wifi.

so if you use your phone a lot, use a lower speed 228Mhz is absolutely safe for continuous use.

Works great on my Vox too!

I noticed that when you are setting the speeds when idle too low the phone will hang when you try to wake it up. (below 168Mhz) als in combination with autokeylock from Maniac it can cause you trouble when the keylock time is set to 30sec or less.

What happens is that after you entered your pin it takes more then 30seconds for the tornado to set itself and in that time autokeylock locks your phone and you won't be able to get it out of the keylock anymore.

My solution was to rename the location of tornado and then reboot my phone.

After clean reboot I set back the location name of tornado and adjusted my autokeylock to 50 secs again.

I hope this helps for anyone as I might not be the only dumbass that likes to squeeze the max out of it's phone.

but why would you set it below 168 Mhz ? that will just hang up your device. Its not going to save your battery by that much...

thats because your device is not properly unlocked.

try using the windows powertoy to totally unlock the device

you can find it here

after turning the security off soft reset and TPC will work fine :D

Hi

Just upgraded my E650 to WM6.1 using Dr Gonzo's rom

This has OMAP and TPC included in it.

I installed your app, but when I try to run it, it says TPC is not installed (even though it is).

Also, now I must have changed some settings on TPC 'cos whenever I try and run it, the phone reboots (I think the last thing I did was set the CPU speed to Auto)

Any ideas how I can rectify this without a hard reset ??

Thanks

PaulF
