Hi,  I am a newcomer to this forum...........I have been looking over this forum for a few days now and wondered what you all thought....  I am searching for a new mobile and wanted something that will sync with Outlook on my pc.  I am not using it for business, just as a nice gadget phone  ;o)
, but will be mainly making calls (hour a day), texting (5 a day), checking emails a few times a day and web browsing maybe an hour a day......

I love the look and feel of the touch dual, it was my first choice when looking for a new phone but am very worried about the apparent issues reported on this forum,  not switching on from standy-by, freezing, low battery life, SD cards corrupting, video driver issues  etc........ I wish it had wi-fi, but prefer the keyboard and supposed improvement in speed compared to the touch.

how good is it really and how common are these issues?

my alternative phone is a Nokia E51, though I am not too keen on the way it looks or the small screen, it may be more stable???   I like the wi-fi too but can get  w&w with t-mobile here in the UK so I am covered whatever really......

Is the touch dual as unstable as it appears to be on these forums?  has anyone had one and not had any issues?

I hope some will help me in this issue, I am getting the new phone for my birthday, so will be ordering at the weekend.......

Don't own one myself (just upgraded from hermes to kaiser this week!) but I took a long hard look at the touch dual and the touch cruise before making my choice and spent all of last week sitting next to someone on a training course who had a touch dual and had nothing bad to say about it.

One thing I will say about forums is that devices always look bad if you just read these kinds of forums because help with problems is part of the reason people come here, so you might be getting a false picture of the device. It's like if aliens landed in the car park of your hospital, wondered into accident and emergency and thought all humans were injured all of the time based on what they saw in there!

LOL, yes I can see that point, thanks for your reply.   I am off shopping tomorrow so will have a look at them in the shops first, just to be shure the Touch Dual is for me.  Though here in the UK they only have dummy phones, so it doesn't help with seeing how responsive the screen is, and the operating system etc.......

Will let you all know which I end up with.........fingers crossed I end up with the touch dual, I have loved it from the start.....I guess i will be back here once I have it, asking how to do things  LOL

BTW, if you install, say the c to a CAB file to fix the T9 issue, will I be able to remove it later in case i need to return for warrenty?  not sure how these files work, can CAB file fixes be uninstalled and removed so it goes back to how it was before?  Also can I back up the registry or ROM in case i make changes that need to be undone?  if so how would I do that?

With a cab file, you can usually go into settings on the device and uninstall it from "Remove Programs". Failing that, you can _always_ "format" a machine's memory and config back to factory conditions with a hard reset, but that is an extreme step that you shouldn't be using day to day.

As for backing up, there's lots of alternatives here, I personally use SPB backup both at home and on all the devices I support at work. These pretty much all make it easy to take a backup of the system configuration and put it onto memory card before fiddling with settings in the registry (not the ROM, dumping that is a specialist issue).

I too have been faced with the same problem that you now are…Previously had a Vario 2 (HTC Hermes) and had my upgrade opportunity.  I was very split between the functionality (GPS/Wi-fi/Full Keyboard) offered by the Vario 3 (Kaiser) and the smaller/lighter/better looking/Touch Screen ability of the Touch Dual, being a tad of a vain technology lover….I opted for the Touch Dual – and believe that its great! If you can genuinely do within the missing functionality.  


For calls/texts/browsing/occasional email its perfect….and its small form is much easier to carry around.  After a week with the Touch Dual very glad of the choice that I have made.

I will recommend that you do read the forums as you unfortunately will need additional software, albeit the majority of it freeware, to ensure that the Touch experience is actually as slick and user-friendly as possible!.

You wont beat a Sprite Backup for a backup tool either! I also use SPB Diary to ensure that my calendar is usually on such a small screen. (Neither of which are free)
