To all those as excited as I am at getting hold of the uber-sexy X1 WinMo device, don't dispair just yet at rumours it's been pushed back until 2009! Engadget are reporting the maiden device in Sony Ericsson's new Xperia range is still on track for release in H2 of this year.

That word comes straight from Sony Ericsson Corporate Vice President of the Global Communications Aldo Liguori, who told the Unofficial Sony Ericsson Blog that "I can confirm that we will be launching the X1 product in 2nd Half of 2008, as per our announcement of 10th February." That sure is about as definitive as you can get, though we're guessing there's plenty of folks out there that think any date other than tomorrow is too long to wait.

Roll on June-December :D

I really cannot say much more than...I absolutely cannot wait for this beautiful little device. SE is long overdue for its break into the WM world. From what I have seen it is going to be one incredible break indeed.

This still represents a 6 month delay, doesn't it? Q2 ends in June, whereas H2 ends in December....

It was always going to be H2, not Q2 - so December, knowing SE's form on release dates. If not January!

Probably worth the wait though.

Sorry - typo, it's due H2 this year :D I'd imagine if it isn't out by the summer we won't see it until the holiday season...

That's what they said about their other "flagships" like the P990i and P1i. All were late, were full of bugs and slow as molasses (still are). That's with months of extra testing (though from the state of the released firmware it's hard to believe they did any). If we've now got Sony Executives with Extremely Long Job Titles (isnt it funny how you can be a VP of anything these days) publicly declaring that it won't be late, then I dread to think how that testing schedule is going to be shortened when the engineers are forced to give in to the men in grey suits.

Sure, it looks nice (Sony's speciality), but I can't help thinking their track record on smartphones hasn't been so good so far.

It's built by htc so I think there shoulnd't be any problem other than driver issue maybe :D ... I sure wish they gave us a precise release date so that I can decide weither wait for it or get a kaiser.

That phone is amazin! Can't wait to get my hands on one.

I think SE are on to a winner finally trying the WM route. I've heard lots of horror stories about Symbian phones, SE included, maybe this one willl be the one that makes them say "we should have used WM from the off".

As someone pointed out, most of the hard work is being done by HTC, who we know make good PDAphones, just a little bland on the design front. From what ive read so far, the X1 seems to be HTC thats been given an SE skin and makeup.

My main worries are networks and pricing; I'm hoping it will be on T-mob, and that they'll have the sense to leave its software as is, instead of bloating it out like their MDA!. Pricing is anyones guess atm, ive heard some people online claiming $300-400 on contract, but where they're gettin these figures from is anybodies guess.

But by the release i should be out of my curent contract by a few months at least so that will hopefully count towards an upgrade discount. Whether it works out that way, we'll have to see.
