Nah, I'd take the Raphael over the X1 any day, for Manilla/TouchFlo, and the fact that HTC are a more experienced WinMo brand. And I'm almost certain they'll have learned their lesson, there'll be drivers here.
I hope you are right about the drivers as (even though the X1 is far superior!) I'll be getting a T-Mob MDA Compact 4 as soon as they come out !

Enhanced GPS. from Wikipedia : "eGPS delivers a "universal positioning capability that will not only work reliably indoors and in zero GPS signal conditions, but greatly speed time to fix in poor GPS reception areas where most handsets are used." More specifically, it can "exploit data available from the cellular network to speed GPS fixes and provide complementary, fast, and reliable location sensing when GPS signals are weak or unavailable." "
Good old Wiki ! So does this mean that eGPS will be an extra feature which the Network will charge for ? If you don't pay then you're left will plain vanilla GPS ?

And seeing as it's winmo, you can get the benifit of doing things like Powerpoint presentations or websurfing on the bigger screen, or work on documents etc, even watch videos or show pictures.
Looks like TV-out is a pretty cool feature after all !

Perfect Device = Samsung M8920 with WinMo7 plus FM & TV Tuners !!

How is the X1 better? It's basically the same, but this comes in various form factors with varying extras...

And nope, I think it's just a hardware thing.

Glad I could convince you :D

The X1 is WVGA I guess, which also gives moe space for the keyboard, that's about it tho!

Oh woops my mistake  :D !

Specswise the Diamond is looking a lot better than the Samsung i900. I've decided I don't need a keyboard anymore, after getting used to how light and small my touch is I don't think I could get anything bigger!

Can't wait to see some more pics, I expect it's going to be out really soon too!

Dude !  :(

3" WVGA Screen with (slight!) Tilt = Excellent improvement over the usual and unimpressive 2.8"
3.5mm = Essential to use quality earphones instead of proprietary nastiness
Radio has RDS = Nice feature to have
1500 mAh Battery = Extremely important !!

Plus .....

Sony are using good Drivers = HTC's downfall in the past .....
Sony have a great reputation with Camera quality = HTC's Achilles heal .....

I'm a HTC fan and will jump on the new models as soon as they come out ..... but the X1 is without doubt the better device !!  :(  Seeing as HTC are making the thing for Sony ..... why couldn't they make the Rapheal have at least the same (if not better!) spec ?!

All the X1 needs to do is mate with the Nokia N96 and we'll have the Perfect device !!  :D Or just wait for the X2/X3 !!  :(

The only potential problems with the SEX1 will be possible delays in release and more than likely expense !!   <_<

Perfect Device = Samsung M8920 with WinMo7 plus FM & TV Tuners !!

Says who? HTC are making the device, so if it's the same platform, i'm willing to bet it's the same drivers!

See point above, I bet the camera will be the same as on these...

Quite true ! Although the reviews of the X1 are saying it is the dogs !! Hopefully Sony has overseen this aspect and made sure HTC doesn't screw it up !  :(

Again quite true ! I read something about Sony wanting to put a 5MP in there ..... but HTC downgraded it to a 3MP !! As above, I'm pretty confident that Sony would make sure HTC imporve this feature above their lacklustre offerings in the past !  :D

Anyway, back to the Diamond/Raphael ! Would you be able to hazard a guess as to possible prices of the new MDA Compact 4 ?  :(

The Compact 3 is dirt cheap now on contract ..... would the Compact 4 simply replace it at the same price point ?  :(

I take it that the Raphael will be the new Vario 4 ??  :(

Perfect Device = Samsung M8920 with WinMo7 plus FM & TV Tuners !!

What I'm actually most interested in is the hardware controls.
It doesn't seem like there are too many buttons on the new devices, and I personally went for the TyTN II because of the scrollwheel.

If the Raphael doesn't have a scrollwheel, I'll be sorely disappointed.
It already seems like softkeys are going to be on-screen rather than hardware buttons, which I'm not overly fond of either.

Apologies about doubting the motion sensor info.  Some-one in the know has confirmed that the Diamond/Raphael does have an accelerometer, and that this works very well for changing screen orientation.

Is there any information on the Touch Dual Pro's dimensions and whether it has WiFi or not this time round?

If that is the case, could it not be used to make the GPS "dead-reckoning", though I suppose that would also require an electronic compass.

yeah, you'd need a compass.

As to the X1...

HTC will be bringing their experience from the X1 to these devices, and they'll end up with a superior device

Accelerometer. Multiple form factors. eGPS rather than aGPS. And Manilla on all of them, as well as HTC's other bits of software. I'd take that over the X1 any day.

looks like we have another dud smart pda phone with the X1

as you will see from the video, the X1 is desperately crying for some dedicated video acceleration.

Looks like HTC have messed things up for Sony Ericcson.

hopefully i'm wrong and it will be better once its released commercially.

Most probably just prototype teething troubles ..... if not, then I wouldn't expect the HTC models to be any better ..... if they have messed up drivers again, I'm gonna burn the HTC factory down ..... actually nah, I'll just get an N96 I guess !!

Christ....there are  lot of assumptions and speculation flying around regarding X1 vs New HTC Devices.

Fact is none of them are out yet. I think we can all agree that all the new devices including the X1 "look" fantastic. We all "hope" that HTC has learnt learnt from past mistakes with regards to drivers etc.

Hopefully May 6th will bring more answers. I'm betting on a Q3-4 launch for these devices, I think this was the sort of time frame that we saw the Kaiser released. Not sure when the Touch/Touch Dual landed.

agreed. this is speculation. but I am hoping SO much that HTC have learned from their mistake with the Kaiser.

If these are released Q3... hmm. my contract runs out in about 14 months. so if kaiser = last summer, these = this sumer... then their sucessors will probably be next summer, I can just keep my contract going and upgrade when their sucessors come to t-mobile.

Oh, i've had a flash of inspiration! remember how the Compact IV had home and back keys? I bet these are the same, and that home and back keys are what MANILLA uses!

it would explain the odd settup. and i'd also guess that if you disable Mailla (if that's possibe) they'll work as Start and Ok keys.

Hey Paul the leaked spec sheet photo for the Raphael shows it based on the 7500a (not 7200a) chipset with an agps (not egps). Is it possible the CDMA/Sprint versions will use a different chipset? I think the 7200a is GSM only while the 7500a can do CDMA (EVDO Rev A) and tri-band GSM.

Info for 7500a here:MSM7500a Info
(HTC CDMA Touch / Titan uses MSM7500)
