Hi there,

i am sure quite some people allready heard about PSX4ALL, a good working PS1 Emulator made by zodttd.

He released the sourcecode for this project:

http://github.com/zodttd/psx4all/tree/master

Would it be possible to port it to Windows Mobile, and would some coder maybe interested in trying?

It allready worked quite well on the gizmondo under WinCE4.1 and maybe this port can be used for windows mobile?

best regards,

im sure it could be ported, but why would someone wanna bother porting it when we've already made it so far with FPSEce?

http://www.fpsece.net/

Because FPSEce seems not to be better then PSX4ALLif you have no 3D Card. There is more than one emulator for quite a few systems, why not for PSX either?

FPSEce starts to get more annoying than interesting because i only hear results, but i didnt see any for more then a year now...

yeah i agree with you there lol. the last result the other was talking about playing spyro at 30fps and it was playable. but if it was 30fps wouldnt that only be half speed? it seemed like it wasnt able to frameskip to normal speed, atleast i wasnt able to get it to do that.

Steady 30 frames per second would mean that you can set a fixed frameskip of 1 if the game would run 60 FPS at full speed. Since the human eye will hardly see a difference (regular movies, depending on the country use between 23.something and 29.something frames per second "only"). So having 30 FPS with a frameskip of 1 should be highly playable basically.

I would LOVE to donate for FPSEce if there would be something to donate for... i dontated a lot for PSX4ALL for the GP2X, because you were able to use most "beta versions" and i saw the progress myself.

The only benefit I can see, that PSX4all has over FPSEce, is the ability to underclock the emulated PSX.

This can be helpful in getting some speed out of certain games. The downside, looking at the forum, is that this feature doesn't save those settings, so you have to manually do this every time. And this could be a pain because it's a different setting for almost every game.

I don't see any benefit over FPSEce, for compatibility. FPSEce, is already quite compatible.

One of the developers of FPSEce has been seriously ill, so it's a bit unfair to ask for any progress on the emulator.

Although, looking at the FPSEce forums, it's maybe not far off a release. And, it looks like they're writing a custom PPC GPU plugin.

I also prefer FPSEce's front-end, as it's well designed, looks great, and is easy to use. Can't ask for more. If they could include a feature to underclock the psx cpu, then I see no reason for PSX4all.

so let me get this strait... it actually underclocks the rom?? thats really weird... i thought only hardware can be overclocked/underclocked.

well im just going to keep waiting for the FPSECE update. but im goin to check out PSX4ALL...

You know i haven't tried fpsece yet after the wm6.1 update on the kaiser, i wonder if it'l be any faster!

i was able to run something at 20fps before, but it still seemed slow, im not sure why it wasnt normal speed with a frameskip of 2.

It just underclocks the emulated hardware using lower clock cycles, much like in certain MAME deratives where you can overclock the CPU. MameFX, I believe, allows you to do this.

If you are finding games slow, try using more simpler games, mostly 2D stuff. On my old IPaq 2210 overclocked to 533mhz, I can run simpler games like Loderunner almost fullspeed with a frame skip of 2. A lot of old platform games run well, as does a lot of puzzle games. But I found games like Ridge Racer, a little slow. Although, funny thing is, it looked smooth enough in the in-game running demos.
