As far as we all know, the Blackjack II does not have WiFi capabilities.  While not yet 100% definitive, we're a good 99.99% certain that there is no WiFi working or coming to the Blackjack II.

There is no wifi chip ever built in the blackjack2. The closest thing to wifi on the blackjack 2 is telthering the connection with a laptop/computer and sharing the internet connection from that computer.

There are SDIO wifi cards available. Spectec is even supposed to release a microSD version. However, this product has been on hold for quite some time and perhaps is "vaporware". Anyway (copied from a previouis post), there is an adapter on the market from SD to microSD format (http://www.ameri-rack.com/APA-TFC1m.html). You could get the SDIO compatible Spectec 821 wifi card and use this adapter to connect to the microSD port on the device. This should work (in theory), but I haven't been brave enough to try it out. If anyone has any experience with attempting something like this, let me know!

In my experience, memory card wifi is useless because of poor driver implementation and lack of native support in the OS.  The OS has been designed to connect only to the networks it currently supports, so adding wifi through third party drivers will be a problem.  I had a Linksys CF card for my older PDA, and it really was a pain, then it stopped working and I never fixed it.

These problems are all aside from the fact that this Spectec company has claimed to be working on their product for quite some time now.  Pretty sure I remember first hearing about them "almost releasing" it a year or so ago, so don't get your hopes up.

Like I said, 99.99% certain there will be no WiFi on the Blackjack II.  At least, not until the Blackjack III comes out........

No, that's a pre-order. They don't actually have any.

Well, there is no built in WiFi in a blackjack. End of story. People have compared the chipsets of the i617 and the european i600 (essentially a Blackjack w/ WiFi), and there is no WiFi chip in the BJ2. Also, WiFI cards/mods involving SDIO wont work, because as far as i have been able to tell the protocall is not supported in any MicroSD device. So no WiFi, ever.

however, it is fairly simple to connect to the internet on the BJ2 using ActiveSync. You may think this is unrelated, however if you sync with bluetooth you can connect wirelessly and for free anywhere where is a computer that allows you to sync with it over bluetooth. Limited, I know, but there are reletively cheap bluetooth hubs that can extend the range of your wireless networking to about 20 metres from the hub, much longer than a low power dongle and will work for a home or office effectively.

As far as i know the only other way to get wireless internet on a blackjack is to shell out for it. Hope this was helpful!

I am not as technologically experienced as I'd like to be, so bare with me if my question is a bit silly or uneducated.

On this microSD card, would it contain wifi Hardware, wifi Software, or both???

The card would have the wifi hardware, the software or drivers would need to be on the device unless but technically there could be a standalone driver/software written for it.

Hey guys, i just contacted them and this is their reply about the MicroSD Wifi SDIO Card. :

"Dear Mr. Micah Mathai,

Thank you for the mail, informing your interest in our microSDIO WiFi card 802.11n #SDW-823.

The microSDIO WiFi card is still undergo.  It's schedule has been postponed a little bit longer than expected because we have more intense and urgent cases to run currently.  Please don't worry, it won't be late than Q3 this year, per our existing schedule.  I appreciate your further patience waiting for the world only microSDIO WiFi card #SDW-823.

Meanwhile, I have checked the spec of Blackjack II (I617) smartphone.  It is running compatible OS WM6.0, but its expansion microSD slot not support SDIO.  It is not able to work with our microSDIO WiFi card.  I am not sure if Blackberry will release upgrade software for such expansion slot in future.  If they will, you will have chance to use our microSDIO WiFi card then.  Thanks for notice.

B. Regards,

SO OUR BLACKJACK II's DONT SUPPORT SDIO?

Okay...I bought one of these 823 cards and searched google hard about this topic...I'm suprised that nobody has posted a thorough conclusion...My experience is that it IS POSSIBLE for the blackjack 2 to work along the spectec microSDIO 823  to get wi-fi!!!

I have been trippin' off how it didn't work for me at first but I kept re-installing the driver and re-starting my phone and removing and reinputting the wifi card a couple times...Be patient...

I WROTE DOWN SOME PERFECT DIRECTIONS IF YOU CAN'T CATCH ON!!!

01: Look for the MoDaCo GPS hack via Google. Or any other application unlocker (like SDA). The best in my opinion is MoDaCo hack because it frees your GPS if you don't have an unlocked BJ2 for other GPS programs like GarminXT which can use the BJ2 GPS without a data or wi-fi connection.....(yeeah!)

02: Install your application unlocker...

(These first two steps may be optional, but my SDW823 wasn't working until I installed an app unlock)

03: Power off then power on the phone...

04: Plug in your phone to your computer via USB.

05: You need to install a .cab file that will place the drivers onto the phone. There are two ways to do this, they are from the manufacture CD or the Spectec website downloads section which I suspect had a more recent version than what was on my cd. I would suggest going directly to the Spectec webside download section and finding the updated link. It wasn't until I used the downloaded driver off the website that I noticed the program worked w/ my hardware.

///If you are installing from the website, just download and drop the cab file in a folder on your phone and run the file. Don't save it on a storage card, put it ON YOUR PHONE! Select "OK" on your phone to complete installation.

///If you have the CD that comes with the SDW-823, run the CD in your computer and select "SDW -823" on the  menu to open the install wizard that will send a .cab file to your phone. Select "OK" on your phone to complete installation. If your CD install isn't doing it for you, try the website method.

06: Do not worry about "won't display" message...Trust me, I left a note below.

07: Unplug your phone if you haven't already from the computer

08: Power off then power on again.

09: SLOWLY place your Spectec SDW-823 card in the microSD slot on the right side of the phone...Yes, I know it's a little thicker than usual, but be gentle with your baby. The word "Spectec"on the card should still be sticking out...DO NOT try to push it until it clicks like a regulr microSD card because it won't. You will know it is in there when the green led light on the card lights up. With mine it automatically detected the wi-fi I have at my crib and triggered a popup on the screen. You will be able to access wi-fi settings via the Connections menu, don't worry if there is no icon in your start menu.

NOTE::::READ

I am running WM6.1 on my BJ2. It is important to note. Yes, when you install the .cab file, the phone might give you a disclaimer that the program "might not display correctly because it is for an older version of windows mobile"...DO NOT WORRY ABOUT THIS...I got that message and the program was not showing up in my start menu after I installed. Though the manual says otherwise, u don't need stinkin' start menu it if your wi-fi card is working...If you have wi-fi networks in range the 823 should detect them and the familiar windows mobile wifi tower symbol will appear in the system tray @ top right on your phone...

I SEARCHED AND SEARCHED THE INTERNET FOR THE TRUTH ABOUT THIS FRIGGIN THING AND I WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW THEY CAN BUY IN CONFIDENCE!!! YES THE SDW-823 WORKS AND ISN'T JUST SOME MYTHICAL HARDWARE...I WILL CHECK BACK HERE AND POST HELP TO GOOD QUESTIONS.
