Right, .....I'm nearly there!

I've re'run everything, apart from the 10.5.4 update. As last time my machine froze at the grey apple screen after applying this update. So I'm at 10.5.3 with everything looking like a proper working Mac.

I've just cloned my disc to an external USB drive, with the intention of now adding 10.5.4 with the safety net of the cloned drive if it goes wrong again.

Can somebody please confirm the 10.5.4 update is working properly? .....am I doing something really obviously wrong?

I've just noticed, in the "startup disk" system pref's pane, I'm not being shown any start up discs. All I've got is "Network start up" (No Macintosh HD or my USB clone). Is this normal on these systems? & if so, how do I boot from my cloned disc? (apart from physically putting it back in the computer).

I've just reinstalled the 10.5.4 updater, & this time it's worked!!!

Received my Advent 4211 today, just waiting for my new wireless card and RAM to arrive and I'll be installing OS X. Being able to intall OS X on the Advent was the main buying point for me as I've been an Apple user since 1989. I miss my 12" Powerbook, should never have sold it. Lost my patience with Apple waiting for them to bring out a Sub notebook.

My initial impressions of the Advent 4211 are great, even with XP LOL, just need a 6 cell battery now and I'll have the perfect machine. Oh, and maybe an Apple sticker to cover up that Advent logo on the lid :-)

Thanks for your efforts with this Paul, it's greatly appreciated! An OSX sub notebook for £300 (incl. ram etc.) Bargin!

I already had a system up and running with an external drive using leo4all

Now got a 250GB internal drive and duel booting Advents XP OS and Mac OS
Used your method
Still need to get a wifi card but other than that all ok

There's no "information box" to say "plug your computer"

Hey, I'm getting an msi wind next month (when i get paid/when it's uk released!) and can't not mod a new laptop that only costs 350 quid! well plus extra ram and hdd. just wanna ask a couple of things?

1) When taking it apart how easy is it to take everything off? is there anything i can't take off? like the screen keyboard etc ( I plan to get the black one and sand all the plastic down and spray it green with a black keyboard!) this is what i did to my last one


2) I am a mac person and want to install osx but does it run well? it's not gonna die on me in a few months or anything? I can use it and not have to worry about data loss?
