hi all, first post on these boards you guys seem to have quite a lot of omnia knowledge, so thought i'd sign up. ;)

been a nokia s60 user for years, and just got an omnia from vodafone uk.

i had a play with a sim free variant a week or so before i go the voda one, and they have rather usefully disabled the task switcher, which means any switching has to be done via task manager (which is cumbersome). the task switcher app is still there (i have found the .exe file) but there doesnt seem to be a setting to enable it.

can any of you guys help? im guessing there must be some way of getting it turned back on, via registry hacks maybe?

thanks in advance

Dan.

Hi mate, if you just find the .exe in windows, copy it, then navigate to the start menu, then simply paste it in there, now you can access it from the start bar menu. Simple ;)

i think you want to paste it as a shotcut. that might be better.

One it's in the start menu, you can map to a hardware key in start -> settings -> buttons.

I assume an 'up sweep' from the Samsung logo doesn't open it then (as it does on my device)?

Just wondering where did you find the EXE file? As I am having the same problems as you are. With Vodafone as well. Why do they do this? It's so stupid.

Just checked the windows folder. I dont even have taskswitcher.exe in there. Bloody Vodafone...any chance of uploading it? Have you figured out how to switch it on as well?

nope, still no idea how to get it turned on. and as psionandy says, it is a hidden file. i noticed that once you have run it once, it then shows up in the processes list under task manager.

so, im thinking that it needs to be added to a startup list for when the phone boots, and then also a reg setting modified to get the "upsweep" bit working.

any help anyone?

...pretty please ;)

I think the only way you are going to get it working is to upgrade the firmware to HH3 like i did. the up sweep works and task switcher appears in the program list. Vodafones firmware is bad which is why i got rid of it.

I found it when I did show all files, added the shortcut to start up, soft reset and it shows in processes. But the up weep does not work.

I'd love to upgrade to HH3. I don't really want to brick my phone.

Thanks for pointing this out.  I've now dropped the file into the 'start' menu and it's exactly what I wanted as a switcher/program closer.

However, I just can't work out how to map it to a hardware button (I've figured out where the mapping controls are but task switcher doesn't show there).  Does anyone know where I need to drop the exe/shortcut to make it appear in the button mapping list?

I have a vodafone I900 and I mapped the taskswitcher to the single click on the main menu button.  I am using mobile shell so did not really need to access the samsung main menu.
If you go into buttons from the settings menu, its right near the bottom of the list (I nearly missed it), rather than looking for the program name taskswitcher, it is listed as [Switch Programs (Alt-Tab)]
You dont need to copy or move any files

I have the same firmware as you but i dont see [Switch Programs (Alt-Tab)] listed at all... i just created the shortcut in the start menu instead. I havent mapped it to a hardware button becasue to be honest i dont really use task switcher anyway... i use task manager to switch between apps if i need to.
