I am very close to buying the Omnia and have watched various Youtube vids and reviews. I was under the misconception that the optical mouse could be switched off in favour of a normal D-pad behaviour. However after watching a couple of video's it seems the interface is a little erratic and requires you to swipe across the pad rather than press the button. Is this true? If so, do you think it's possible for Samsung to address this with a new firmware.

Am I wrong about this or is there a workaround. Problem for me is the majority of the time I use my phone as a Music Player and the inability to pause,fast foward, rewind, next track etc... that you get with a D-pad is off putting. It often sits in my pocket and I can just put my hand in and pause etc ot volume up/down without removing the phone. Also what about games when you require the D-pad to accuratly move left or right, how does this work.

Please let me have your feedback. If there is no way to activate a normal D-pad function it may be back to searching for a new device.

it's missing a dpad.
you can "hit" four directions (by sliding your finger over the optical stuff), but you can't hold them.
would be difficult to use from inside a pocket..

That's not good. Wondering now if anyone has used a remote control for the Omnia, were you can plug in a wired headset. This is a deal breaker for me as I commute for over an hour on the train and don't want to pull the Omnia out every time I need to skip track ec..

Anyone heard of a compatible headset. I mainly use either Pocket Player or Mort Player.

I use a Jabra BT620s without a problem with a Touch Player.

I want headphones with a remote control though and also a wired set so that the quslity is better.

i have the Sony Ericsson one, which looks pretty cool, has control, display~~caller id~etc~~and the sound quality is pretty good~~

can't say about the remote headphones features since I haven't used it much yet (it has volume wheel and one button, not sure what that button can do) but the quality probably won't be improved by using different headphones. When I tried the original headset with original samsung headphones the volume was not quite as high as I would like, so I tried plugging in my Koss The Plug which can play very loud, yet it only played at the same volume as the samsung headphones. When I was using my Koss headphones with my old mp3 player and later with Nokia N73 the volume was much higher.

The point I am trying to make here is that it's probably not the headphones that are holding it back, but more likely the audio output power of the phone itself. Don't know how many mW it produces, remember that my old mp3 player had 24 mW of audio output power which was way more than other small mp3 players I was also considering for purchase. This was a bit of a disappointment for me since I got used to listening to my music through the phone while riding a bicycle and the volume I get from Omnia is not good for house music even when using one of the most powerful portable headphones.

btw the original headset is a wired adapter which has a 3,5mm jack and has one button and a wheel for volume. It comes with a headphones by samsung which has standart 3,5mm jack too and so you can use any 3,5mm headphones you want instead. Just plug it in the headset adapter. Same as how I had connected the N73, original nokia headset with Koss headphones and the volume was a lot higher. The quality is actually only affected by the headphones. If you have headphones that can play loud the quality will be good at all volumes. IMHO the audio output power of the device affects the volume and the headphones affect the sound quality...bad headphones will not stand high power (high volume) and the quality will go rubbish and the good headphones will be clear even on the highest volume.

Can't you see sticky post how to adjust phone volume? Put 0db for headphones and there you go
