I don't know whether you guys realized this or not. But the fact is, for all the while for me to hard reset the OMNIA, it is always on try-and-error basis.

Everybody know that to hard reset press the reset pin and the SEND and END keys. But nobody realizes that there is step-by-step for accomplishing this.

Follow the guideline here:

  1. Press reset pin button ONCE (do not hold)
  2. Once you see the Samsung Omnia appears on the screen, immediately press the SEND and END key simultaneously
  3. Then the screen appears asking you whether you are sure to format
  4. Press SEND to format or END to cancel
Hope this little guide will help...

I've never managed to get any of these key sequence methods to work, always have to use the software method. Just tried this one as well with no luck, what am I doeing wrong. Do I need to immediately press the SEND and END key simultaneously (and hold them in or release)?

once you see the Samsung Omnia screen after you press the reset pin, press simultaneously booth the SEND and END key.

It is proven to work as I managed to repeat the hard reset sequence as in the above for several times. Now I am the master of hard reset for OMNIA ;)

Ditto... I've never managed to do a hard reset using the Reset/Send/End sequence, even the way it's described here. The ONLY way I've been able to do a hard reset is thru Settings > System > Hard Reset.

I've tried all sorts of sequences...

Press and release reset pin (phone resets)

As soon as I see Samsung Omnia logo I've attempted to 'press and release', and 'press and hold' the Send and End keys - both ways continue to the opening animation and the startup of the phone. No Hard Reset.

I've tried other methods described on another blog...

"When Omnia powered off, hold onto the Call and Cancel buttons, press and hold the power button for a approximately 5 seconds until the reset screen shows up. If you do it wrongly, you will hear the samsung jingle and the startup animation.

OR

When it is on, hold onto the Call and Cancel buttons, poke the soft reset hole and the reset screen shall show up."

Thanks for posting your method tho. I, (as I'm sure others), appreciate your help.

Cheers

Same here... so far only managed to hard reset through settings... The sequence described above does not work for me either ;)

The method of using the software in Settings/System/Hard Rest gives you the option of not wiping out the My Storage. Does this method allow you to reset and still save the contents of My Storage or does My Storage get wiped clean also???

Thanks... Ron...

wow...surprising. sorry guys...I do not know why because the steps above work consistently (100% success rate)

by the way, you can still hard reset from Settings though. there you have options either to format only the main memory or the entire system including the My Storage.

Ron, the hard reset via software has the option of allowing you to select to wipe the Main Memory or My Storage or both of these, or the Storage Card. If you've flashed your firmware using the updates available from elsewhere in this forum you also have the option of formatting or not formatting My Storage, which I did tonight to fix a problem software caused. It all depends on what you are doing with how you should go ahead.

i.e. if you are updating to a newer firmware you would be best to format My Storage so you have a clean slate to work with (in most cases). If you are simply fixing a problem, don't format, then you can run a restore of your backup and be up and running in seconds. I'm presuming people are backing up? ;)

I know this is kinda off topic, but worth mentioning anyway.

Our Hard Reset inability *may* have something to do with different hardware versions.

Perhaps someone with more knowledge can chime in.

Cheers

the method I used, is reset pin, while holding the end and call buttons VERY VERY VERY LIGHTLY.

IT seems they are touch sensitive and it matters how far u push them down.

if you push them so slightly , its hard but it works.

I do it in a different way, i think i saw it mentioned in some thread here. This is what i do & i get it correct always.

1) Turn the phone off using power switch.

2) Press the Send and End keys together (doesn't matter how you press it down)

3) With the send and end keys pressed turn the phone on using power switch.

Within few seconds you will see the format message.

Hope this helps someone.

It is not the reset button, you have turn the phone on using the POWER button while holding the send and end keys. You will first get the samsung omnia logo and then the format screen.

I know, but I was catching at straws so I tried the reset button too, my phone just boots no matter what key sequence I use.

That is strange. I had difficulty with the first method (reset) and then i started using the power button method and it has always worked for me.

;)

Im struggling to find why people are having issues with pressing 3 buttons?

Surely its possibly a firmware lock that is preventing some people? ie Voda UK firmware

Ive never turned the phone off prior, never removed a battery,

Simply press stylus into reset button, press both pickup and disconnect buttons, release stylus then release pickup/disconnect.

Works for me every time.

For info im using Non branded software, as i said before i fear people that cant its more to do with Networks interfering.

Well, I've tried the other methods added here, had my phone since end of July, buying mine from Singapore, using it in Australia.

Still with no success. I don't think I'm missing anything here - being in the IT industry for years (nearly decades!), I'd like to think I kinda know my way around tech.

Maybe my phone is haunted, or I'm dead coz the phone doesn't recognise my fingers on the Send/End keys either pressed lightly or firmly while trying to do a Hard Reset. ;)

Any other methods?

I'm with Black Horse, it's the way, we were "taught" at XDA(the difference was just the buttons pressed and held)

Let me put in the way I understand.

It only works if your phone is already on, booted or not booted.

1) Use the stylus and press the reset button and release the reset button

2) Press and hold the CALL and END buttons immediately after you see the screen black out

3) with the 2 buttons above still pressed, wait for the format or cancel screen

4) Once you see the format or cancel screen, you can release the 2 buttons

5) then decide whether to continue to hard reset by pressing the start button or cancel the hard reset by pressing the end button, just like the old days..

I simulated this a few times,

1) with windows already booted and running

2) with the phone preparing to boot.

If you don't know this and rely on the hard reset button available in settings, I suggest you practice, as one day, you never know when you can't even boot. I learnt it the hard way, my Omnia hung after a stupid failed installation of a SIP. Luckily, I still remembered my HTC days.

Thanks New2City and JasonRabbit...

After numerous attempts using both your methods I'm still unable to access Hard Reset using the keys.

In every process either using the phone off method or simply using the soft reset pin, the phone restarts (blank screen), after a couple seconds displays the Samsung Omnia logo, then ( after another couple seconds), displays the Samsung logo with the website address. After another second or two the usual startup sound byte plays with the animation and continues to the Windows startup.

This is truly strange and frustrating. New2City, I've had that situation you describe with my phone hung and I had to reflash the phone totally. grr.

Unfortunately I am also in the same boat... have tried all the methods posted here and elsewhere... and still no Hard Reset! I only hope I won't need to do any... so far so good! ;)

DAMN SIPchange freezes my phone! Luckily for this thread. I managed to hard reset by holding down to CALL and END key and while NOT LETTING GO, hit the reset hole. You will see a animation asking you whether you want to format your phone. Press CALL to format.

HOPE THIS HELPS!

Hi Guys,

I really need some big help this time.

I have flashed several upgrades before using one file and also using the three rar files.

But this time when I tried to flash HI3 from the rar files I had a problem this time.

I god a “checksum failed” error with the first file download. I did not get the screens that were described in the When things Go Bad post. I get a small cellphone icon with a yellow triangle (like a road sign) with an Exclamation mark in it.

The only way to turn the Omnia on is hold down the on/off button and the only way to turn it off is to remove the battery.

Any ideas on this???

Thanks… Ron…

For the people that are having problems with the call and end keys...

If you look closely when you press them down firmly, it "traps" the optical joystick and effectively presses THAT down as well. In that case, it won't do the hard reset function. You REALLY REALLY have to hold them very lightly just before you can see the joystick being pressed down. THEN it should all go forward as before.

I tried for ages and ages after i had a "low memory" message and it would not get past the "omnia" logo upon a normal re-set. Every time it wouldn't do the hard reset until i noticed the middle key problem.
