Syncmate is total overkill for what I think you want IMHO....

As I see it you simply want to use your Omnia as a 3G modem to provide internet connectivity. If that is the case to the following:

1. Pair Omnia and MBP over Bluetooth (it is worth doing this in a lead-lined room as MBP's Bluetooth radio is so sensitive it picks up every mobile phone in a 50-mile radius)
2. Make sure that at the end of Bluetooth pairing process the MBP recognises the Omnia as providing a Personal Area Network.
3. On phone go to programs>internet sharing
4. In the PC connection dropdown select Bluetooth PAN
5. In the Network connection dropdown make sure that your default internet connection is selected (Contract Internet on Vodafone, for example)
6. Click connect at the bottom of the screen
7. On MBP go to bluetooth icon, click it, select your phone and in the slide-out menu select connect to Network.
8. Browse internet.

Hope that helps.

Thanks to both of you, all I wanted was to connect to the phone as a mobile broadband modem and that worked.

I don't know why i had to route around for so many setting to sort this out but I guess it is a windows device after all hehe.

All setup and working great.

Many thanks guys

Both solutions work.  However bluetooth is likely to kill the battery especially if you are also using HDSPA data connection.  Syncmate will connect to the phone over usb, and although it might not charge the battery, its gentle trickle charge may stop it using so much battery.

Orange regrets to inform you that their network will be going down in 1 hours time for all users apart from yourself. This is because nothing would go down on you, not even a network!

I was able to connect my phone up to the laptop and run the internet over bluetooth so battery won't be a problem now.

On another note which is better syncmate or the missing sync?

Hmmm Paul has been using missingsync for a while, but has recently switched to Syncmate.  I tried syncmate expert and it did all I wanted it to do and more.

That is true, but there is no reason why you can't connect the phone to the laptop over USB while using it as a bluetooth modem....

Syncmate is free and allows TETHERED sharing = not overkill IMHO

Why would you plug it in via USB and then connect over Bluetooth? Makes no sense IMHO!

Nah my point was more along the lines of:

Bluetooth + HSPDA = dead battery
HDSPA on it's own doesn't kill the battery as much

Yes, either way can have the phone connected to charge, so the trickle charging point is moot I guess.
