Let me know what kind of stuff you'd like to see, and what should be a part of every Android owner's collection arsenal of applications.

I'll start:

- Pandora or Last.fm

- On-screen keyboard

- Twitter-style organizer/GPS tracker (so your fellow 'Droids know when to not bother you)

Can't wait to hear what you guys want.

EDIT: Multi.Freaking.Touch.

I've been trying to download the surreal networks app unlock so that I can download some of their cabs, but the phone keeps saying download unsuccessful, content not supported. What I really want is to be able to play Super Mario Bros on the G1. If you can help me out with that or lead in the right direction, I would really appreciate it.

Coming from a WM phone, I'd like to see. . .

1. A file explorer like program. I really liked the ability to delete and make files on my memory card.

2. A real task manager, so I can kill apps. I'm still not sure how the Anrdoid OS knows what to leave running and what to turn off. Not that I've had issues like I did on my TYTN II.

3. A different style of zooming in and out for both the web and picture viewing. Like multi touch or even like the HTC Album program.

4. A different picture program, it's pretty basic. HTC Album like program would be a step up.

5. A ringtone makers. Almost like what you could do with HTC Audio Manager.

Hopefully we'll see more apps! I finally got pacman after waiting and trying for hours! lol

I second the App Killer / Task manager... but the rest in no order:

--remote desktop

--proper rss feeder

--file manager

--palringo for android (No rush Martin,

--GPS tracking overlay for google maps, similar to Helio's "buddy beacon". I can show my contacts where I'm at, and I can see where my contacts are located, as well (assuming they give permission, of course)

--Sling Player for android (now that I have 3G)

--flash support for the browser / and or a browser with flash support (similar to skyfire)

Overall though i'm very happy with the device.

It would be great to have a better AIM application. The one that came w/ the G1 is so disappointing. I have several hrs just trying to log in and load my buddies.

Yeah, I guess I should have possibly explained palringo, but it's an all inclusive instant messaging program that works really well.

Android is to get a software keyboard soon and a sim tool kit. Well according to this . . .

http://source.android.com/roadmap

I see. Imput Method Framework is the framework of software keyboards.

And I'm interested in IME for using Japanese naturally with English devices.

FYI, I use JSandBox, my tool in Market, to input text in portlait view.

It's supported English fling input, and copy texts to clipboard B)

For those requesting an app killer, the android shouldn't technically need it. Any app written for the g1 should have an event handler that detects when that application is no longer in focus.

In this event you can either close your app, put it into a sleep state and wait for the app to come into focus, or set up a listening so the app stays asleep until something happens.

Even if you are doing things like that though the operating system should shut down any inactive applications if it needs resources to open a new application. Since i've had the android i've not needed to reboot the phone once!

I think there is an app on the marketplace that allows you to view everything that is running but the OS handles the shutdowns from what i can make out from the docuumentation.

Matt.

My list of essentials after owning a Magic for 3 days. :D

1. Locale - not quite as good as PhoneAlarm on the WinMo platform, but makes a good fist of location-based profiles/settings

2. ShakeAwake - essential to unlock the screen if you need to access the keyboard/dialler mid-call

3. Palringo - ronseal IM client

4. FBook and FBSync - do facebook properly and get your friends' photos into your contacts

5. Astro - fab file explorer for accessing the SD card.

6. K9 - essential replacement for the appalling default pop3/imap email client

As for AndNav2, I'm not convinced so far. Tested it driving a two-hour journey to Colchester yesterday, and the route recalculation kicks in too frequently and takes too long. The location and roads kept mismatching, meaning that it recalc'd the route even when I was on the right road. Not enough stuff is pre-cached (the preload option just does the map backgrounds, so routing and roads are all still server-based), which means it can be slow to get road layout info. And there's no auto-zoom to show me the road in detail as I drive; the screen layout is pretty poor and missing essentials like current speed, etc. It also hangs a lot (Android kills it frequently, particularly after the phone comes out of standby). It's got promise, but it needs a lot of work. We'll see how CoPilot for Android looks when it's released. I'll be giving Nav4All a try in the meantime to see if that'll get me by until AndNav2 works better.

Can anyone get Google's Picasa uploader to work? I tried installing it from the Market but it fails with a package certificate error.

Totally unsubstantiated rumour indicates that it's going to be in 'a few months'. So the back end of the summer, probably.
