Limits to the number of flashing

Hi,

I am a flashololic just like the rest of you in this thread. So far no issues at all for me, knock on wood.

However, I am worried that there might be a limit as to how many times Omnia can accept flashing. I used to experiment with PSP flashing as well and I understand that you can flash only so many times before it does not accept any more flashing. This might be the design of the flash memory for the ROMs that are not designed to be written multiple times.

Does anyone here know or think we are OK with flashing to every rom like there is no tomorrow? Is Omnia designed to accept such an abuse?

Or, will there be a threshhold number when reached produces a brick?

Any thoughs from enlightened one would be appreciated.

Yes - it appears you are right that there is a limit which appears to be 100,000 cycles (see below). But given that it takes about 1/2hr to flash each time (ignoring reinstallation cabs and other personalisation) - you would have to reflash continually for 6 years before you started to see problems. Clear message => just flash flash flash!!!

Memory wear

Another limitation is that flash memory has a finite number of erase-write cycles. Most commercially available flash products are guaranteed to withstand around 100,000 write-erase-cycles.
