hi guys,

does anyone know if it is possible to force my HD to use Wifi if i want to make use of the HD applications such as the weather and stock information, rather than resorting to GPRS. i currently have an unlimited download limit on orange for GPRS but i dont really use it so rather than lose 7 quid every month i want to remove it. however i dont want to pay as i go for GPRS, seeing as i already pay for wireless broadband; i would rather make use of that!

hope all that is clear.

thank you in advance

I do not think there is need for that because WIFI always overides GPRS. They do not work together, that's why you can switch off WIFI if you do not need to use it.They never work together.

No, it's not clear. You contradict yourself about a billion times in one sentence, which is actually quite impressive.

That aside, if you want to stop your 3G/GPRS modem connecting to the PHONE data network altogether, you can just install the NoData application that is freely available on this forum to prevent that.

Quite what it is exactly that you're trying to do here, I have no idea. That's not my problem tho...

I killed £10 of o2 mobile PAYG credit whilst I was connected to my home WIFI connection. The Touch HD fails to prioritise and open applications remember, just turn the data connection off.

i think it is fairly clear actually! he wants to cancel his unlimited data within his mobile contract as he doesn't use much of them. but he also wants to retain the functionality of the stock tracker and weather apps within touchflo without incurring extra charge for gprs/3g connectivity. he wants to know if he can instruct the phone to only connect for this data via wifi.

i imagine the answer is indeed to install Modaco Nodata and disable the 3g/gprs connectivity. then connect manually to wifi and update his stock/weather quotes then.

alternatively he could configure his phone to do all this autmoatically my setting stock/weather apps to connect "manually" only. using a profile changer like phonealarm to detect when he is at home and connect to wifi automatically, whereupon he could manually for the weather/stock updates. i think he could even schedule the weather/stock updates to happen automatically at times he knows he will be at home, and therefore connected to wifi, via the apps settings (i think).

hope this helps, and is suitably clear.

NB i am increasingly aware that i sound like a phonealarm rep! i am not affiliated in any way with pocketmax/p3nguin/phonealarm other than being a paying user, and an avid fan!
