Hi there... New to this forum and still searching this forum to find whether the similar question has being asked and answered before.

The question I'm asking is:

How do I backup my existing ROM?

I just upgraded my Omnia i900 firmware to the latest of i900DXIA5/DZIA5. It is an official release from Samsung. I just read somewhere that it is advisable to backup the original ROM before updating the ROM. I didn't realize it can be backup.

here is a ROM dumper for i900.

It's only tested on a clean WinXP computer :(

let me know if it works, and I will open a new topic for it.

I'm not sure yet how to reflash properly, but I've already reflashed using another os.nb as a base, I think it should be enough.

I did backup 2 files because I'm not sure yet which one I will use for the flash method. Both should contain your ROM.

Still trying to find how to flash back properly, but I miss time these days..

maybe at this time there will also be some problems with bootloader, because it's changed since the first ROMs..

note that it will only dump your PDA part, I didn't find how to dump the PHONE part nor the CSC

First install the .cab and reboot your device.

Then run the dumper on your PC and follow instructions.

Once done you should remove the cab (or flash your device !), as it adds a shortcut in startup to go to flight mode.

You can even not install it and modify the reg key by yourself.

I can upload a demo video if needed, but I don't think so B)

Hey mate, thanks for the dumper works a treat.

I can tell your pretty busy, but wondering if there was any update on restoring the backed up ROM.

Basically ive been having issues with reception on my i900 and tried a few things am thinking it may be hardware, in which case to get warranty i will need to re-flash with the backed up 'vendor' firmware.

No hurry at the moment tho still doing more research into the problem, will probably end up being carrier issues, they have not been to reliable recently.

Cheers ;-)

hi, no spare time now but I'll try after I've released the new kitchen..

if you intend to flash it with another ROM after backup, then you may want to try a hard-reset.

if not, the first thing I'd try is doing it on another computer !

But how to extract .raw file? I mean, how to get csc, pda, xip... etc?

can't remember right now if it's only possible.

I extracted a dumped ROM already, but I'll have to check the steps..

meanwhile, you can check xda-dev for more infos about all this !

ps: as I don't need it, I won't work on flashing the ROMs back unless I get much more spare time.... or good money <_<

Interesting, I have done the dump as well. Worked fine and was easy to do.

However, there is no way to restore it from this dump so far. (I don't see any replay that does it)

Adding a 'restore rom' would be awesome.

Thanks.
