This is what will happen when the £6 unlimited (10Mb) SPV tariff ends.....

The SPV 'All you can eat' promotional bundle will still be available to customers purchasing SPV handsets until the 31st March 2003.

After this date customers connecting an SPV handset should be offered any of the new GPRS bundles or the new PAYU bundle

(Note - customers will not have to take a GPRS bundle)

The SPV 'All you can eat' promotional bundle is valid until 30th April, after which time it will expire.

All customers on this bundle will be auto-migrated on 1st May to the new PAYU bundle.

Overall, simple Out of Bundle rates. Just 2 charges - £3 per Mb on the entry bundles and £1.50 per Mb on the mid / high end bundles.

Removal of the additional £10 sharer charge on ALL bundles.

Rollover still applicable to GPRS. Any unused Mb from a bundle will be rolled over to the following month.

NEW TARIFF

Monthly Charge Inclusive

NEW GPRS Tariff Bundle

GPRS 1 £2.00      1 mb

GPRS 2 £4.00      2 mb

GPRS 4 £8.00      4 mb

GPRS 7 £15.00    7 mb

GPRS 15 £25.00  15 mb

GPRS 30 £40.00  30 mb

That structure seems kind of odd in that its £2 per Mb until you get package 7 when it suddenly becomes £2.14 per Mb... ?

They should have retained the £6 SPV unlimited package.

I guess it did it's job, and helped Orange to sell pallet loads of SPV's.

There will be a lot of people not having GPRS after april I think.

Where's the 30 March date from?

The contractual date is 30 April 2003.

It's 31st March...

Because if you were able to get the SPV £6 package after this date you would not get a full months GPRS, as they will be swapping to the new tariffs.

It avoids messing about with refunds etc

Ahh, misread - sorry!

I scanned through the post, got a lot to catch up with, and thought that said that the unlimited thing ended on 30 March...

Isn't there something in the contract about Orange getting us a "better or comparable" GPRS deal after the contract for the unlimited one expires? I'm sure I read it somewhere. :?

The way I understood it was that we would be moved to a comparably priced tariff, however I was also under the impression that it was supposed to be unlimited and we all know that's a load of steaming brown stuff

Yep i too read in the contract that you would be moved onto a comparable tarrif.

Well i dont see any comparable tarrifs out of them and i will be taking this further with orange after the £6 package runs out.

This could be a cause for a break in there terms of contract and i think we should all stick together on this one and push it so we can get what we signed up for.

If there is no Internet access for me with the phone then there is little point in me having their service as i have 2 Orange SPV's and i can simply use the other one for what i need (pay as you go) and Orange can have their phone back.

Certification, overpriced internet charges, i really think Orange need a reality check here and do something before its too late!!

Good luck, it says comparatively priced. Well there are tariffs there which are less than six pounds so I guess you are going to find it difficult.

I agree that this is too much money - the update weighs in a just under 11mb (i know its downloaded by the pc but is still an idea of how big these applications can get)!

It says a comparable PRICED tarriff, it would be naive to expect them to continue an unlimited package for £6. It would have been nice to see a fixed rate for an unlimited package (similar to those offered by standard isp's) for a similar rate (£12 - £15 maybe) - though even these have a fair use policy.

Most of my gprs use so far has involved the odd web page, a bit of email and the update thing, cos i've got a broadband connection and a big screen for most stuff why would i wan't to use a 40(odd)k connection and a tiny screen...

If i'm out, i'll want to know cinema times or cab numbers and it'll be useful then and so won't cost me too much. Mobiles are always expensive, and new technologies more so. I'm sure we'll see a drop in price in 6 months as usage increases

To be honest, I'm not suprised at the proposed charges. This is all part of the mobile operators trying to increase the revenue from customers. Personally, I think it is a bit short-sighted. I certainly will not be paying £25-£30 for the privledge of downloading data based on my usage to date.

Given Orange already offer unlimited WAP browsing for £4 a month, I had hoped for a better package for SPV users. I think the tariffs they quote put it outside the range of most non-business users. A great pity.

If nobody bothers to take up Orange's "competitive" GPRS packages after April 30. They would surely have to re-evaluate their GPRS strategy. At the moment it is nice to have a phone which can stream video/access the internet etc. But is it paying the extortionate rates they are charging? £6 monthly seems about right to me.

My definition of comparable pricing after 30th April is £6 for 10MB per month. What is Orange's definition?

It depends - they could say whatever the £6 tarif is.

We all knew this "unlimited" offer was going to end in April so complaining won't do much good. Yes it would be nice if they continued and unlimited package afterwards, but they are in this to make money, not to please us.

It's simple business - if they price it too low then they don't make money. Price it too high and they don't get customers and hence don't make money.

Look, I always read in advertising and contracts that after the end of the £6 offer, we would be migrated onto an equal or lower price tariff with a megabyte cap. That's almost the exact words, certainly the "megabyte cap" bit.

So, I was basically expecting a 1Mb option to be £6 or less. It never compared to unlimited or the 10Mb we know Orange to consider to be unlimited.

There's lots of issues with the phone, loads of bugs, need an update to fix things soon, certification is flawed, not enough software included with it e.g. file explorer, no decent technical support, no feeling of recognition of our problems by Orange... let's stick to complaining about these issues, the ones which we've been really unfairly caught out on. Yes, it would be nice to have an unlimited GPRS tariff, but I think so long as there's a 1Mb tariff no dearer than £6 then we can't complain to have been misled about that.

If we're going to sway Orange at all (and remember we only make up less than 10% of their users) then we ought to stick to the issues that really matter, fundamentals about the SPV not functioning as it should.
