I was wondering if there was a way I could make a shortcut icon to put the phone in standby mode, where the LCD is turned off.

I know you can do this by pressing the power button, but I assume this button runs a process to turn the phone off.

I would like to assign another button to turn the phone off.

Is this possible? I plan to use this instead of a locking application like S2U2 and ThrottleLock as I have tried both and they seem too clumsy to bother with to me. Thanks in advance. (I have searched the forum and Google)

This program can be used to simulate pretty much any keypress on the PocketPC.

Usage is very simple, just specify the keycode you want to simulate on the command line in a shortcut.

eg: "\Program Files\vijay555\VJKeyPress\VJKeyPress.exe" 114
will simulate pressing the "Green" phone key.

Some interesting keys:
223    Power Off
27    Escape
91    Start Menu
93    Context Menu
112    Left Soft Key
113    Right Soft Key
133    Device Lock (WM5 only)

A Shorcut to "\Program Files\vijay555\VJKeyPress\VJKeyPress.exe" 223 does exactly what I want. Stumbled across this looking at VJBrisk. Will be using both in conjunction to make the upwards swipe turn off the phone.  Hope this helps if someone else wants the same feature.

I too would like a shortcut to "suspend" which I can set in my own menu in mobile shell.

Presumably it exists for the standard Suspend key in the Samsung menus so must be accessible in another way.

Anyone know how to produce a shortcut utilising the existing "suspend " key?

The program you have listed above looks OK but it won't it mean that the program will have to be running all the time?

I use the following executable, which is free and works OK.
You can copy the file in Windows directory and create a shortcut wherever you want.
I changed the software key mapping and I use it from there, so I don't have to search and push the  hardware power button.

This looks just the job but to be clear, if I create a shortcut to this file, when selected it will put the phone in "standby" the same as the Samsung standby widget icon, NOT turn the whole phone off as though the top power button was held down.
Is that right?

Following this, any key or the end call key will wake it up (as set in the phone options)?

Hi justin89h,

I tried out the VJKeyPress program (parameter 223) and it did indeed put the phone on standby.

However, i had my phone settings (Start>Settings>Personal>Buttons>Wake up) to automatically lock the phone when it is "woken" up, so that missed calls/smses or accidental key press will not unlock the touch screen.

When I used the physical power off button (short press) to put the phone into standby, the touch screen will be locked when the phone is woken. But when I use the VJ program to do the same, the touch screen is not locked when the phone is woken.

Did you experience the same thing? Any idea how to get around it? One idea I had is to find another program that can activate 2 programs in sequence (i.e. VJKeyPress with parameter 133 to lock the phone then another with parameter 223 to standby the phone), but I do not know if something like this is available.

Will appreciate any help given.

P.S. does the Poweroff program have the same issue? If not I'll use that directly.
