Okay fine. I downloaded so many ROM today, none of them works
"INCORRECT VERSION"

I don't even want to brick my PDA by chaning things around.

Goosh, please help me!

well what can i say...  :excl:

first of all.. this forum has all your answers. The latest roms (not counting the beta 6.5) are DXIA5 roms which are good..

First you update to normal samsung rom from samsung self latest version.. just google
next a custom rom ..to keep it simple start with the rom fro tarill since it still has all the omnia software included..

Its better to do this on a windows xp machine.
- start with downloading the samsung modem driver - otherwise no flashing
- turn of device
- on pc double click your rom file (which you have downloaded from samsung or this site)
- wizard starts
- turn phone on
- you can now press start button on wizard
- wait till wizard sais job done

as for activesync....

- first in the set up just tell what to sync
email'
contact
etc.

- for backuing up photo's etc
in activesync you can browse folders
browse phone on pc through activesync and just copy and paste to your pc folders..

but all this you can find (also beter written) on this forum with much extra...

good luck

the problem is "incorrect version"
i can't even pass verifying....
this is what i am complain about
i download the latest rom already, it's just this stupid version really driving me crazy
but reading the so-called "official version chaning thread"
geesh, i don't even understand his steps, no offense
i don't want to change things around!

i just want to do an official update

connect to the pc, run the updater, verify, update, that's it!

this is the official guide....

OMG, what is wrong with samsung

Download Taril's DXIA5 ROM from HERE.
This is what's called a cooked ROM, meaning someone  (a "cook") took the official one and made some changes to it. Different 'cooks' add different "flavors" to their ROMs. Taril's ROMs are known for its speed, stability, better battery life and memory use, while using 99% of original Omnia applications. There are also some other good enhancements. So it is a good start. IT SHOULD NOT give you an 'Incorrect Version' error.
As mentioned, be sure you are running XP amd have Samsung modem installed before flashing.

There are other good cooks there (qbus, Shokka, Sector). Most of them make either 'clean' ROMs (most of the original apps are removed), or ROMs based on M2D interface (interface that used on HTC phones) or WM6.5 interface. I dont think you should worry about those, untill you get used to Omnia, get more info about Windows Mobile world and applications, and know more or less what exactly you want from your phone. So this is just some info for you.

Your phone is UNLOCKED, meaning that you are not tied to any carrier. You can put ATT sim in it and it will work. You can go to another country and get a SIM card there and it will work. This is all you need to know about it... :excl:

Post you questions here and people will try to help you. Try to rpovide as much information as possible, so it will be easier to figure out what problem you have.

BTW official updates for which countries have you already tried?

well, first of all.......calm down. u just made one of the greatest purchases in ur life..... :excl: this is one of the hottest phone on the market right now.........i started as a rookie too back to June 08' and now i can do everything i want, except cooking ROMs, i might give it a try when i feel confident about it. it is a time consuming thing to do and im not gonna lie to u, i spent at least 6 hrs a day to learn thing that i dont understand, its like going to an online college, university of phoenix for example :excl:

u can find everything u want to know on this forum, all u need to do is reading what people r asking and what the answers are.....u r facing a problem that is very easy to solve by read the pined thread in the ROM section, the very top one, after that u can start with the official ROM, look for Taril's ROM thread, he's got a giude for how to flash ROMs, official or cooked.....when u feel comfortable with ur phone, u can move on from there........his ROMs r all official ROMs with optimization so u will get more space and faster response.....

i hate to tell u this, but u'll have to spend more time on reading instead complainning about it.......

good luck

hi, thank you very much ilyukha and mementomori

I used Taril's Rom and done
I did use the trick Paul told us  - change the location

Just two more question:
1. everytime I update a rom, it will clear up all the memories? including my storage card?

2. as far as transferring mp3 and photos, if you happen to use SE before, it has a very good program call  Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.0
instead Samsung has this MITs Wizard 3.0 comes wtih the CD, I used it, fine...
is there any better program I can use to do transferring files? Windows Vista has the mobile device center, great program....

I am an XP user... just curious

I am glad it worked for you... Are you starting to enjoy your Omnia and WinMo world? :excl:
As was pointed before, this is one the best WinMo based phones out there today, so you made a good choice.

Unfortunatelly i dont know of any programs to transfer photos or music. It is not thet big of adeal for most people. You can just copy and paste it when you are synced. Try searching handango or pocketgear.
I think Windows media player or Real player will allow you to sync your music library with you device

Hard reset will erase My Srorage, i am not sure about SD Card though... probably not.

During ROM upgrades , My Storage should be OK, but the device itself will be erased. So all your apps there will have to be reinstalled.

School, huh... well this devices come in handy during tests sometimes... :excl:
